GenAI being fundamentally based on a rejection of consent is obvious, but it's not as obvious that it destroys the inhibitions of the people who already reject consent.

It makes them act in public the way they used to only act when cornering their employees by the punch bowl or in their office

Second round of cookies: chocolate and vanilla pinwheel sablés. These are my favorites.

This week's baking experiment: vanilla pretzel sablés made with King Arthur measure for measure GF flour. This is my first attempt at making them in this shape and with raw sugar sprinkled on top.

I read a pre-print study re: teaching prompting in a business comm class, with success only being achieved by prompting with exact rhetorical context and multiple rounds of specific feedback.

Students don't invest that level of care in their own writing, let alone something written for them.
there’s a lot of irony around how writing a genuinely good prompt for LLMs requires the exact kind of clarity and precision in communication that is taught by good (human) writing instructors - who have now almost all been laid off by college admins

Me: they’re derivative.

I’m going to keep saying it: both the “male loneliness epidemic” and the techbro obsession with AI are, at their core, about a complete lack of distress tolerance for the messy business of relating to other people and a terror of vulnerability/interdependence.
we talk a lot about the weirdo techbro obsession with immortality these AI necromancy projects embody, but I'm arguably even MORE fascinated by the terror of allowing yourself to experience deep, complex emotions they so obviously reveal

you cannot prevent yourself from feeling grief with an app??

This is a bit of local flavor I absolutely adore.

So, in Fair Oaks, at the corner of Sunrise and Fair Oaks Blvd, there is a dirt lot with a retaining wall that’s been sitting unused for decades. DECADES. Literally since the ‘80s.

The retaining wall had “NO PARKING” painted on it.

AI art was basically universally accepted as a fun little toy up until the point the big AI boosters settled on a message of "fuck artists."

It makes you wonder what the world looks like if its biggest evangelists weren't irresponsible repulsive people.

Gently ... composition as a course teaches us how to package ideas to an audience for understanding.

The skill being taught is thinking
If you are providing me with an education that is low utility in the world then it’s a disservice. My composition class spent four weeks on poetry. I’m sorry, but that only would’ve been useful if I wanted to be a poet. I don’t need to know iambic pentameter in order to be a victim advocate.
