Why does a half unstable working class piece of white trash like me feel the pain of politics and policy so sharply?
Because my entire life has been shaped by laws and policies. For better and for worse.

I don’t know how to negotiate my own health insurance, though.😳Neither does anyone else. WTF is wrong with him??

Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.
So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.
Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

A populous, swing county replaced its GOP sheriff on Tuesday after months of controversy over his joining ICE’s 287(g) program. The Democratic winner promises he’ll end the contract.

I think this would be a really good idea. My fellow citizens, what do you think? Should we elect more people like this?
Bernie Sanders: We need universal healthcare, and we must pass a Medicare for All, single-payer program to provide comprehensive coverage to all with zero out-of-pocket expenses, and full freedom of choice regarding healthcare providers.

Hahaha.
I’d like to thank all the replies telling me that an insurgent group taking over a party and transforming it could never happen.
I stupidly believed all these dumb books chronicling the many times it’s happened before, but you all set me straight.

Totally agree!!! Vote in primaries!
There’s a two party duopoly in this nation.
Is it great? No! Is it reality? Yes.
Creating a third party means building up an entirely new infrastructure from scratch and then fighting both R & D.
Taking over the Dem Party is an easier and more effective route. It’ll take time, but it’s worth it.

They should have voted differently.
There's also some irony in the fact that Gen X continues to vote MAGA and MAGA just absolutely reamed Gen X on health care costs. People who are about to hit Medicare eligibility but not quite there? That 55-64 bracket? Absolutely fucked with no recompense.

They should have voted differently.
Just don’t tell them that this will require voting. And don’t tell them that it will require electoralism. Many of them are against both of these things.
Absolutely.
The far right took over the GOP through the long process of taking over local and county organizations and the left can do the same. It’s not an instant fix but it actually works.

Protecting Americans from the malice and evil of the other party is hard to do when you harm Americans either way you vote. Vote for the resolution, deny subsidies to citizens. Vote against it, prolong the horrors of the shutdown across all spectrums.

Democrats only faced horribles either way they voted. They had to make hard choices. Hard choices that were foisted upon them by a majority party the people should not have voted for.
Tens of millions of Americans who rely on the nation's largest federal food assistance program have been caught in a weekslong swirl since the US government shutdown has called their ability to buy groceries into question.

Imagine if we voted for it, instead of what we have voted for.
Yup. A rapid shift to solar/wind is unquestionably the right decision both as a matter of national interest and economic prosperity, including among the rich. Heck, it's essential for the proposed AI economy.
They oppose it nonetheless because they fear disruption to their political/social control.

I should write the argument up properly somewhere, but I think this is fundamentally wrong. A decisive fraction of the capitalist class does oppose addressing the climate crisis, but *not* because it would be bad for profits. If anything, a green New Deal type program would raise aggregate profits.

Believe me when I say I very much understand that they prefer the couch and that’s why we are dying as a country. Because they won’t vote against Republicans, who are destroying this country.
This is especially relevant now but the main reason for this is that Dem leaders don't seem to understand that the alternative for the Dem base isn't the GOP, it's the couch, and when Schumer makes decisions like he did, the couch seems very appealing
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

This is the opposite of what we should be doing. If we elect Platner, he will be the albatross on the party. You can’t say that we should elect him or that we will elect him just because of what 10 Democrats in the Senate did from other states.
Tô bring things full circle to our endless hell. Before yesterday, I would have assumed Janet Mills would win the primary in Maine. Now I think Platner will because the primary is now a referendum on Chuck Schumer and being Schumer's chosen candidate is an electoral death sentence.
