Focused on practical things that we can do to stop or slow Trump
Not that interested in posts about Trump horror stories; we already have way more then we need
@whowhatnow56.bsky.social thinks that Obama could have passed a healthcare bill more progressive then ACA, and this guy thinks it is he who is realistic

what fucking ever

oh, like ACA ? like CHIPS ? Like enhanced ACA subsidies ? like more AfAm women on federal bench then ever before (Biden)

like IRA, huge down payment on clean energy ?
like Justice dept suing police depts (Obama, Biden)

Like Justice Jackson ?

no, they didn't "cave"

they responded to hungry people asking them to end the shutdown

the fact neither you, nor any of your family / friends were hungy is blinding you to this
February 5, 2026 at 4:11 PM
I am not sure, but I think this would really help:

The GOP is not going to abolish ICE, and the Democrats shouldn't ask for that, even as a starting point in negotiations, cause it is not real, it is fantasy

people seem confused abut that
February 5, 2026 at 4:10 PM
NO
I bet if you look in any guide or manual, it does NOT say "start off with a maximalist demand that you know your opponent won't accept" eg abolish ICE

Instead you will read "understanding what your opponent will accept is key"
February 5, 2026 at 4:08 PM
that abolish ICE will be in the realm of reality
and during the primaries, voting for someone who stands for this is good

but elections have consequences; the dems have very little leverage here
February 5, 2026 at 4:08 PM
@danielsattler.bsky.social

Today, still a large majority of GOP voters support ICE
Therefore, the spineless GOP in congress support ICE

The GOP controls congress and the whitehouse

how on earth do we abolish ICE ?
it is not realism, it is fantasy

now it could be, if we win BIG in 2026 and 2028,
February 5, 2026 at 4:08 PM
Do you not understand math ?
In 2020, Schumer had, what a 2 vote margin, including Manchinema

Today, Thune has a 6 vote margin

how is that not different ?
February 5, 2026 at 4:05 PM
money for abortions
So we demanded, and the GOP senators said fuck you and far as i can tell, till we elect more Democrats, or *republican voters* change, we have no real actual leverage
February 5, 2026 at 4:05 PM
ACA subsidies is an interesting study

The House voted, with ~ 15 GOP members, to restore the subsidies
so clearly GOP reps in purple districts were very nervous

That bill went to the senate, and talks have just today collapsed as GOP senators insisted on very strict language prohibiting use of any
February 5, 2026 at 4:05 PM
I'm sorry, I don't understand the idea of starting negotiations with a demand that you know your opponents won't accept

There is no reality where the US congress passes a bil abolishing ICE, and Trump signs that into law

So why start with a demand like that ?

I don't get it

Easy for this to get lost amidst all the horrors, but it was a *long* time coming. The first UAW election at this plant was during the Obama administration. (And the UAW's history of trying to organize southern auto workers goes back many more decades.)

I would say no cause Bond villains are sort of cartoon caricatures of what a real villain is; after all, Bond movies are entertainment that deliberately tries not to engage more brain cells in the viewer then absolutely required

Can I suggest an edit to your post

"with the non US rich nations - UK, EU, Japan, etc - not making up the shortfall in funding due to US, global efforts . ."

why is it that people like you always blame the US and never other nations ?
February 5, 2026 at 3:26 PM
Dems can't start with what "the base" asks for, cause those demands are not in the universe of reality

I think if you look in any book about negotiations, you will NOT find, start off with a maximalist demand; instead you will find "understanding what your opponent will or will not accept is key"

the states being able to sue is, IMO, big

here in MA, we have appallin conditons at a short term detention center in Burlington, and there is little the state can do

so being able to sue would have a real actual impact, people not having to sleep in a room with a toilet
stuff like that
February 5, 2026 at 3:00 PM
doesn't do anything
has this changed anything at al ? aside from the food which reeks of white middle class condescension, handing out food which may or may not be wanted

if everyone stayed home and got their neighbors to call their MA state rep, that would do 10x more then this rally, IMO
February 5, 2026 at 2:56 PM
[ rant ] I was there yesterday (4 feb 2026)

photo is misleading
there is still a LOT of snow on the ground

but more importantly, I don't get this rally, it seems like a safe performative space for middle class white retirees but doesn't really do anything
retirees cause held in middle of workday

me and my dad, circa 1960

me: why is Yalvard so wealthy and the 7 sisters so poor (comparitively)

dad: he writes a check for $10,000 to Harvard, and *HE writes a check for $100 to Vassar

Is this true ?

I don't think it is (ultra processed often = very high levels of NaCl) but it might be

you have a link that goes thru this argument in detail ?
or is this post all you have, an opinion ?

The Best Vibrators (After 150 Hours of Research and Testing)
Over 12 years of research and testing, we still think the Magic Wand Rechargeable is the best vibrator. It’s an effective whole-body massager, too.

as far as I know, substack is, still, friendly to neo nazi types

i think there are better alternatives, maybe ghost, so why are you on substack ?

also, your description of why trump voters like him - they want to be powerfull and Trump acts out their fantasy of being powerful - was great
February 5, 2026 at 2:45 PM
so he has more effective power then Schumer in 2020
