we desperately need more people to be openly proud of government work. the things that have been accomplished through government work are miraculous and would be impossible in any other way. social security has never missed a payment! they are developing a vaccine that cures cancer!
traveling in and reporting on the Nordics has really soured me on American style subcultural bohemian leftism. actually existing egalitarian institutions rely on a lot of dutiful, virtuous, boring ass bureaucrats

It’s funny—I find myself becoming more conservative as I age. By which I mean I believe much more in social duty and in shame, and on a day like today I can’t remember the last time I saw a Republican demonstrate behavior that showed an understanding of either

Did you know that you should end your alt text with a period?

"End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text."

This was a new tip for me. Glad to learn something new!

Alt Text: What to Write
Images are decorative, functional, or informative. Skip alt text for decorative. Describe the action for functional. Convey the message for informative.

I think Baldwin’s quote about “the children are all ours” can be expanded into a very powerful revolutionary praxis. Take care of other people’s children, not just your own. Don’t define yourself as “childless,” the children need you. A community approach to children is central to liberation
I’m going to keep it real and hope I don’t get accused of overstating the issue; children’s liberation is the key to the future you want. The active, and often dismissed, oppression of children is near the root of what ails us as a nation.

at this point i think “harris needs more details” is just the way, refracted through consumption of punditry, that these voters are saying that a) they don’t pay much attention and b) they don’t want to vote for a woman www.nytimes.com/2024/09/28/u...

Bring back small cars!
Meanwhile, American cars have grown enormous, with increasingly gigantic SUVs and pickups replacing sedans and station wagons.

Car bloat is not the only source of the US pedestrian safety crisis, but researchers have shown that it's an important one.

This is amazing example of the modern neoliberal university. This idea that complex situations can be solved by the application of online quizzes purchased from a third-party vendor.

This alone should be enough reason to put legislation that stops or slows down AI projects. The same goes for crypto currency.

We all know that due to climate change we need to produce less power in the future, and we should really be using that to heat/cool homes, grow food and cook it.
Before you use that chatbot prompt, you should be aware that these generative AI companies are using so much power that they're trying to get more power plants built.

I swear the #1 reason for the existence of "romantasy" as a term is that it's like mosquito repellent for That Guy. If you're asking for romantasy recs, he will scroll on by instead of trying to convince you that his favorite fantasy series really doesn't have THAT much sexual assault in it.
