I just spent half an hour on the phone with a hospital billing department, to find out if an old bill is still outstanding, and I just could not reach a human through the voicemail phone jails

I remember the phrase "they can't be allowed to melt back into society" re: the de-Baathification of Iraq after the war there. Like everything about that experience, the attempt was cynical, stupid, and botched. But there really should be a plan about what we do with guys like these in the future.

The issues we are actually facing with generative AI would have made Philip K. Dick recoil in horror into his protective blanket of fear.
This post made me think: how far away are we from people using live streamed radio broadcasts of sports events to create AI visual representations to get around rights issues for video broadcasts? For the U.S. specifically: who wins the IP war over this between, say, Major League Baseball and Grok?
I got Peacock to watch the Premier League, but the system is so weird. I can never figure out what I can watch. To be fair, it was like this when I lived in England as well.

Everything we assign as readings now has an AI generated summary which universities have no control over. We can do oral exams and creative assignments but AI is affecting what and how they learn the material.
