Hello, heist fans! This Sunday, Nov. 9, I’m teaching a virtual heist workshop! You can still register today, but you need to hurry!
I’ve done a terrible job promoting it because of book tour brain - so! If you are interested in writing heists, head on over & grab a seat:

My mac froze and the trackpad stopped clicking (the haptics are from a linear motor).
Moments later it unfroze and the trackpad started clicking furiously, all on it's own, emulating the click patterns I tried to make while it was dead.
I do not want a haunted trackpad.

I always forget about my complete archive of UK government source code until I receive panicked emails asking me to delete things from it.
This time it was password hashes. A lot of password hashes.

If you want your thing to last, and you can make your thing into a static website: You should.
Not because it's less infrastructure. Not because you love javascript. Not because self-hosting. Not because offline.
Because it can be archived and preserved for the future.

Terrible ideas I never built #234: PUB-G
A competitive battle royale choose-your-own-path pub crawl within a slowly shrinking boundary, ending up with all players in the same pub.
Obviously, everyone loses.

Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

Strongly recommend keeping a small LLM model on your laptop for coding on long journeys without an internet connection.
It's like travelling with a drunk colleague who half-remembers everything, but is roughly correct enough that it's still worth asking them questions when you get stuck
