Congress wrote into the law that someone who overstays a visa while applying for asylum is not considered to be accruing “unlawful presence,” but it didn’t explicitly say those people couldn’t be arrested and detained — because it was presumed that they wouldn’t be. Well, Trump is doing it.
We came to LA as refugees from the USSR in 1991. Life wasn’t easy, but we persevered and, I dare say, came to contribute something of worth to this nation.

Had I experienced the following when I was a boy, I don’t know what would have become of me.

The Zohran press conference is your regular reminder that the entire administration folds like tissue paper at the slightest hint of confidence and conviction, and thus the fact that national democrats are playing a game of capitulation and weakness is exactly why they're all getting away with it

I’ve never met an autistic person whose “behaviour” wasn’t completely logical once you understood their needs, their history, and their nervous system.

We’re not confusing.

People just aren’t listening.

Today is just one long demonstration of the One Special Boy virus that has consumed our polity. Immediate presidency-ending stuff for anyone else from at least Truman to Biden. We're not even pretending to care about the law or the Constitution or any of the norms or duct tape anymore.
Trump in response to an Epstein question: "ABC, your company, your crappy company is one of the perpetrators. I think the license should be taken away from ABC because your news is so fake and so wrong. And we have a great commissioner, a chairman, who should take a look at that."

You guys realize that taxing people to pay for services isn't socialism, right? This is just how governments work.

Technically, it's an aggravated felony sexual assault of a child, with harsher penalties put in place for perpetrators with younger victims.

Also, ACTUAL MEDIEVAL HISTORIAN HERE: For non-nobles, the average age of brides from the Black Death onwards was...22.2 years old.
I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

There are two lessons from last noght, a local and a national. Nationwide, we see a mobilization of the Dem base and a rebuke of Trump’s vision. In New York—really a Dem-on-Dem race!—we see something more specific: the emergence of a new vision that contradicts the preferences of Dem leadership.

It's awful to smash up all the windows and doors. Most construction companies would have another company come in and remove all the doors, windows, window sills, doorknobs, etc. They could preserve or sell the historical parts of the East Wind. They're just smashing it to create an old-world look.

so there was this brilliant black guy who was president, and he hurt trump’s feelings by not letting him build a ballroom at the white house and so now the east wing is gone
Maybe this is obvious to everyone but…why does the White House need a ballroom? It has enough space for state dinners, no? Is this for dances? Weddings? Storing classified documents?

Just confused so the reason would be helpful thx
