"It’s clear that the president considers the rules-based democratic and economic order a barrier to his goal of establishing an autocracy. Given his dictatorial ambitions, it makes perfect sense for his regime to cozy up to strongmen while treating America’s principal democratic allies as enemies."

CBS paid the president of the United States millions in bribe money and now they censor news reports so it does not annoy him. I don’t know how much plainer we can put this.

THREAD.

My parents' cat Bridget vanished. As the weeks dragged on they became ever more worried, so to distract himself my dad began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up at some of art & music's most important moments.

I've collected his work here...

5,000,000 UK 🇬🇧 citizens who voted in 2016 for #Brexit are now dead. An extra 3,000,000 now have the vote. How people voted almost a decade ago is meaningless.
Today, the overwhelming majority want the UK to *rejoin* the #EU 🇪🇺.

One of the reasons i love tolkien is the theme that despair is an enemy

and it makes clear you don’t need to have constant hope, you can get by with grim determination or spite but never despair
You can be as terrified or nonplussed or unperturbed as you like; the sun will still rise tomorrow & the rent will still be due on the 31st. The world has no romantic narratives for its fate except those we invent, because the world does not die. That is our privilege.

I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution.

Trump doesn’t understand the Constitution, and we're all less safe for it.

It should be easy for educated, rational citizens to hold these two thoughts in mind: drug traffickers are the bad guys but due process of law protects us all.

Being against blowing up alleged drug traffickers at sea on the president's word does NOT make one a supporter of drug traffickers.

If the President can impose his own taxes and use the proceeds to spend on his own projects, all without Congress, we have a dictatorship not a constitutional republic.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

The Cyber Barrons are the Robber Barons of our time.

We need more antitrust enforcement, not less, to break up their digital monopolies.

It is necessary to counter their obscene wealth, power and influence in our democracy.
A former Palantir exec just published an extortion letter in the Washington Post: Democrats must fund tech oligarchs, abandon antitrust, and create 15 deregulated corporate zones—or “lose.”

When I challenged her, she blocked me.

Most of the power authoritarians have is freely given. We should not comply with them in advance.

Trump is far weaker than he looks. So is the GOP. We should draw them out, drain them at every opportunity, and fight for people’s wellbeing at every turn.

We have been sent here to fight for people.

Whatever else you think of him, I don't think he is insincere about this stuff, and it should be recognized as extraordinary that he, Pritzker, and other governors are talking about the federal government in these terms. It's not normal political rhetoric, it's the language of existential emergency.
