Shout it from the mountain tops, for as long as this nation still exists.

The truth matters.
Could this be the straw that breaks the camel's back, as far as triggering mass protests?
One never knows. Something will, eventually. It needs to happen but also God help us. I hope all protests remain peaceful.

What video is he watching?

Unless I have terribly missed something I don't see a video of an officer being run over, lucky to be alive.
Trump: "I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting ... "

Sounds like SOP for officer involved shootings.

However we are no longer under SOP. The Federal gov’t is being run by thugs.
Homeland Security should have said that they have placed the ICE agent on leave and will investigate the incident. Instead, they quickly posted that the agent was protecting himself.

Remember: Federal officials do not enjoy categorical, absolute immunity from state-level prosecutions. They are entitled to removal to federal court. But conduct that is unreasonable or unnecessary for the execution of their law enforcement duties is susceptible to criminal prosecution.

I don't know all the facts of what happened with the ICE shooting in Minnesota this morning but I do know this: the government is led by liars and gangsters. There is no reason to believe anything that comes out of ICE, DHS, or the White House. There must be an independent investigation.

ICE must be abolished. It cannot be reformed.

Yes there must be an agency responsible for at least some of ICE’s duties but it must be a completely new agency rebuilt from the ground up that has respect for the Constitution and the law.

Excellent.
This Jan 6, read the story of Richmond, Virginia museum curator Bill Martin who committed himself to the truth about the old south. As Trump tries to rewrite history, we can learn from people like Martin. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

Don’t let them re-write history. It matters. These headlines and the report of the Jan 6 Committee represent the truth about that day.

This is the truth.

Even ardent pro Trump supporters were, for the moment, taken aback. Stunned into momentary reality as it were. Some called me to express it.

That was the moment the GOP could have and should have ended Trump. But for lack of a few Senators with courage, here we are.
Jan. 6 was widely condemned at the time, recognized as a violent attack on America. Trump clearly caused it by lying about the election to attempt a coup.

Within a year, Trump, GOP politicians and right-wing media flipped Republicans to neutral/positive, rendering it another muddy partisan dispute.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think Anne is the absolutely indispensable writer on American and global democracy issues in this fraught age. I'm glad she is going strong here on BS, over 400,000 followers!

What would a U.S. occupation of Greenland look like?

Presumably it would be met with outrage but little to no actual armed opposition. Would Trump just buy off the 30,000 residents? Offer them a million apiece? Chump change for Greenland, right?

This freak is completely unhinged. Just take a listen.

I’m really embarrassed for my country right now.
MILLER: The US is using its military to secure our interests unapologetically in our hemisphere. We're a superpower. It's absurd we'd allow a nation in our backyard to become a supplier of resources to our adversaries

TAPPER: Sovereign countries shouldn't be able to do what they want?

Unfortunate but understandable.
I’m going to be taking a break from Bluesky for a while.

There’s a lot of good here but increasingly this place just makes me sad and angry and, increasingly, foul tempered and mean. It’s not good for me or anyone else.

I’ll check DMs occasionally but otherwise I’ll be away for a bit. Take care.

This guy reminds me of the most arrogant and condescending opposing counsel I’ve dealt with.
Uniformly despised.
Toasts all ‘round when they eventually (and inevitably) get their comeuppance.
Such people can have a lot of things but they can never have the one thing they most crave: respect.
Stephen Miller: "What the president said is true. The United States of America is running Venezuela ... by definition we are in charge because we have the US military stationed outside the country. We set the terms and conditions ... for them to do commerce, they need our permission."

A great thread from my friend.
A lot of Americans who identify as Christians see themselves as a modern-day equivalent of Israel during Biblical times. Chosen by God. Anointed. Blessed.

Even as many have indulged in heresies such as Christian Nationalism and bought into racist lies like the Great Replacement Theory.

Well …

I don’t mean to be crude but this psychopath gets off on violence.

Which is why I have a sinking feeling in my gut that if the American people ever become outraged enough to engage in mass protest in D.C., we will see significant violence against protesters.
Trump to Fox & Friends on the raid that captured Maduro: "I mean, I watched it literally l like I was watching a television show. If you would've seen the speed, the violence -- it was an amazing thing."
