ChatGPT’s signature writing style is everywhere now, and I hate it. It reminds me of when we tried mixing all the beverages at the soda fountain in middle school. We didn’t actually create the perfect drink, we just made a cloying monstrosity that lost everything good about its constituent parts.

i'm sure duffy is just lying here but also i'll say again that they hard time conceptualizing relations between people that aren't strictly hierarchical.

They want that guy elevated to sainthood not because of what he did but DESPITE it.

This shit is as fixed as wrestling.

I remember awhile back we had to keep saying “there are going to be bad actors sharing Gaza stuff not because they care about Gaza but because they want to increase hatred towards Jewish people so please amplify other people who don’t do that” and I see the ed boards were not listening

I’m going to say this again: there is a wide variety of opinion on this website, much of it very annoying. There’s just no tolerance for “opinions” like “Jews control the weather” and “vaccines are causing heart disease” and “there’s actually a lot of evidence that whites are smarter than blacks.”
Apparently it’s weird when you don’t want to spend your whole day arguing with randoms.

MBA-brain is real.

I like being a human being who makes decisions about this one wild and precious life I’ve been given, even when it is sometimes annoying or overwhelming. It is life and it is meant to be lived. I do not want robot-mommy-slave to do that for me. Thanks anyway though, ya freak.

There are a lot of people in power who’d be fine if we just had trade schools and business majors. The next generation developing critical thinking ability and an expanded, more nuanced view of the world is a danger to these folks’ power and ideology.
So, here it is. Thanks to a new state law that was NEVER DEBATED, Indiana University has committed itself to abolishing majors in African-American/African Diaspora Studies: American Studies; Art History; French; Italian; Religious Studies etc. DOZENS of majors. www.ipm.org/news-section...
Indiana public colleges cut almost 20% of degrees
Public Indiana colleges and universities have eliminated 19 percent of their degree programs to meet requirements added to the state’s budget, according to the Commission for Higher Education.

And then this shit just came out.

When you’re making over $700k a year, gaining $12k is nothing. It’s a nice vacation, redoing the garage, giving a niece/nephew a car.

When you’re making $23k a year, losing $1600 is “are we paying for food or for the house or for medical bills” territory.
Budzinski: Families making over $700,000 a year will see a boost of $12,000 almost entirely from tax cuts. Shockingly, households making $23,000 a year or less are set to lose about $1600 a year, mostly due to deep cuts to Medicaid and food assistance

Yes. I am right. I am seeing how Chat GPT is ruining students critical thinking and writing skills in real time. It is not the future. It is a tool designed to render the populace helpless, to make people doubt their innate intelligence, and to foster overreliance on technology.
@roxanegay.bsky.social maybe you’re right.

I think it's important to continuously reiterate that federal science funding grants in the US (and elsewhere) are made because the government, with the input of panels of independent experts, have concluded that the work being done is IN THE INTEREST OF THE NATION.
When the Trump administration froze this Nobel Prize–winning neuroscientist's research funding, he received an email from China offering to relocate his lab to any city and university of his choice, with guaranteed funding for 20 years.

The thing that my peers - crappy old white men - are unable to wrap their heads around is that DEI is an attempt to achieve something approaching meritocracy, rather than what we have now (an unending procession of crappy old white men).
One of my friends has received racist and sexist harassment for her entire career. Her entire career. In every single workplace. She is outstanding at her job, and her peers know it. She is employed because she is one of the best at what she does and they resent that. That's the sadism in all this.
A group of Labour MPs, peers and supporters write:

“We should legislate to root out DEI in hiring practices, sentencing decisions and wherever else we find it in our public bodies.”

Devastated to see how quickly this has arrived in the UK mainstream.

I don't want to see a single person saying this was warranted by the carnage in Gaza, that this was for Palestinians.

I am a Palestinian person and I do not want senseless acts of terror committed in my name. I don't want Jewish organizations to need extra security because of fear of violence.
