It's hilarious that "Her" (2013) is a movie set in 2025 about an AI that included a future LA subway map that looks like it was designed by an AI in 2025.

Yo chat, I think my girlfriend might be a demon twink. Should I be worried?
my beloved girlfriend has an inexplicable attraction to grotesque, almost supernaturally weird old men. guys who look like the adults from a roald dahl story. fellas who act like they were perhaps recently animals turned human through some unnatural bargain with the fey. not me though

This thread is insanity
This one is probably my favorite. I like how they lined them all up neatly in a row and then left the couch 😑

Voters were mad about high prices and people freeloading off of government support, so we raised tariffs in order to send everyone $2,000.

I am not a crazy ideologue. I just think that the richest society in human history has a moral responsibility to welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, treat the sick, and house the homeless. If doing that requires forcing comfortably-housed people to accept neighborhood change, I'm ok with that.
Probably the key part of this piece. It comes down to the following: "What does prioritizing millionaire homeowners’ aversion to change over the needs of the poor and unhoused do to our souls?"

Oil is the most Lovecraftian thing that actually exists.

You're telling me that there's a black ichor under the earth made from the ancient dead, whose burning can realize all the dreams of man, but only at the price of slowly returning the earth to its primordial state?

For decades, a prime but isolated corner parking lot at 4th & Broadway in Denver's Baker neighborhood was too small for traditional development.

Thanks to Denver's forthcoming single-stair code updates, KGA Architects is proposing a 5-story single-stair apt on this "forgotten lot"

The promise of energy too cheap to meter
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

In reality this country, like the rest of the new world, was always a polyglot multiethnic society. The fact the American right are trying to ape European fascists and pretend America had the ethnic makeup of Iceland prior to the 1965 Immigration Act is deeply strange.

I’m serious that we need a ballot initiative banning Metro from building street running sections & requiring elimination of all existing sections within 10 years. As with HLA and TOC voters here are going to have to insist on what we actually want.
The existence of street running sections in LA Metro is very telling - the tunnels and aerial structures don’t exist to give faster rides to transit riders, they exist when someone thought the impact of street running to auto traffic would be too large.

Actually, yes! State level zoning is a must-achieve. The cities are clearly incapable of doing so in any just and productive way. And besides, didn't SB 79 seem politically impossible when you first got involved? The political Overton Window is a movable object!
