If you are unhappy with the state of electoral politics / political parties you too can Be The Change
In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.

We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party
“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”

I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

Though they are usually well intentioned, unfunded inclusionary zoning requirements make housing less affordable by increasing the cost of building new homes, which worsens the housing shortage and drives up rents.
In 2018, then-Mayor Ada Colau called Barcelona’s new 30% inclusionary housing requirement for projects over 600m^2 a “paradigm shift,” making housing “a right and not a commodity.” It was supposed to produce 330 affordable units a year. The reality: just 31 affordable apartments in all these years.
Cuando se ha aprobó esta medida dije repetidamente que iba a ser un fracaso y que no construirían nada de vivienda asequible. Se ha probado en mil sitios y no funciona.

A wealthy safe streets advocate could do the most good by paying a team of maybe a half dozen journalists to aggressively and comprehensively report every single traffic death in every major city. Depicting the horrifying human cost, FOIing PDs and DOTS, contextualizing it in policy choices, etc.

I took 5 flights during this shutdown and had little to no wait at security, let alone any cancelations. So damn lucky to have finished all of my traveling for the year when I did

I'm just going to put this out there. If your city has an affordability crisis, and a homelessness emergency, it should not also have a law on the books with the avowed purpose of making property more expensive. It's beyond time to repeal those.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

Building on this - Prop 50 swing over 2024 presidential vote by county. There was indeed a strong correlation with Hispanic/Latino presence in each county

The U.S. auto industry is a borderline communist enterprise:

Fully bailed out and re-capitalized by taxpayers *twice* so far this century; makes crap products designed to guzzle gas and kill children; and politically powerful enough to block all foreign competitors with vastly superior products.
Every time I come to China I get more and more annoyed with how many interesting, well resolved choices in budget EVs they have that we don’t.

This is the GAC Aion UT, a small hatchback about the size of a Chevy bolt that stickers for about $10,000 USD. @insideevs.com

Single-stair plus multifam zoning on single-fam lots might be what prefab needs to take off. Manufacturing processes require scale and repeatability; only single-family lots deliver those. Homeowners want too much customization in ADUs, but developers might be profit-minded enough to see the vision.
We could panelize it and assemble the whole thing with mass timber

As you add cars to a geometric location, voters get more violent, less tolerant, and more conservative.

This is because car dependence requires extremely high attention to naked self-interest: Who's taking "your" parking, why are all these other drivers causing congestion on "your" commute.

Caltrain's electric trains run faster and smoother - and people LOVE it. Make service better, and riders will come, which means more people will vote to support transit.
We love good news! 🤭

Yesterday's other big theme, besides how much the electorate hates Trump, is that voters really want more housing built.
I truly never thought I’d see the day when Marin County voters went pro-housing; but they appear to have opted to upzone parts of Sausalito(!) and rejected the housing-centric recall effort against the mayor of Fairfax.
