Joe undersells it, this is the first time HLA has been used to improve a street post repaving (fixing a bunch of sidewalks!) Notably it’s a project installed just months after the measure passed - lots more in the appeal pipeline
A very minor victory buried in the city's staff report responding to an appeal I filed regarding Hollywood Boulevard improvements. Here is the staff report - which includes my appeal labikas.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...

All it took to get this quick-build safety upgrade was 10 years, the death of Nadir Gavarrete, and the guerilla work of the @crosswalksla.bsky.social

A few more missing crosswalk photos. It shouldn’t take the death of a child, and the @crosswalksla.bsky.social painting DIY crosswalks to get the city to install safety features!

I wrote about LA's remarkable opportunity to once again use the World Series as trial run for upcoming megaevents. Unfortunately our leaders are incapable of envisioning a city that cheers together: there was very little planning for public celebration and a whole lot of leeway for police aggression

Really informative piece on next steps for SB79 in L.A.
Did you know over a million new homes are at stake in the SB 79 implementation fight in LA over the next few months? I talked to two of the main players and wrote up a rundown of the abundant opportunities for City Councilmembers to play games and exempt favored neighborhoods.
The first SB 79 battle
LA has to pick which neighborhoods to let the law take effect in next July. Advocates are already drawing lines.

Is it that hard to acknowledge Streetsblog/me for taking photos you use, LADOT? Left is 2025 LADOT Ohio Ave presentation, right is 2022 SBLA coverage of city bikeways. SBLA photos are creative commons - not a problem for the city to use this, if they credit the creator.
