I've been writing short and feature films for about a decade. I've been working with food, as a farmer, grocer & restaurant worker for about a decade.

I'm getting some good friends together to make a proof of concept short for a movie that combines both. We're fundraising soon.

I'm beyond excited.
there should be a Streets for All style organization specifically for organizing the westside, or Central LA, or the Valley. For showing up to meetings advocating for safer streets and rail and BRT expansion, and for pressuring electeds, and voting them out.

We need on the ground organizing.

im watching ken burns's prohibition, and a key part of the doc is that the progressive movement was trying to change lives through legislation, not persuasion.

i think the 2010's and 2020's has been dominated by "progressives" trying to persuade people.

I'm watching another Ken Burns doc. I think these people have lost not only a sense of civic virtue, but an understanding, even a knowledge of our history.

Our history is one of grappling with our responsibilities and our freedoms. They care for neither.
one of my recent preoccupations is the visceral hostility the MAGA right has for the histories and traditions of the United States. these are people who spit on the Declaration and salute third-rate European despots!
It's striking that progressives like Tim Walz and Zohran Mamdani evoke the middle American attitude that, "Yes, we can fix these social problems because we're Americans and it's the right thing to do!" While the "America first" right only emulates failed and failing nation-states elsewhere.

TAPing with credit cards is coming to LA Metro this spring!

And you can pay for up to four additional riders! No more having to buy individual TAP cards for every friend/family member/child you are traveling with!

sometimes i find people annoying because they're like "actually batman would be better off using his wealth to fund community services."

that's not the point of any of this. batman punching people is emotionally cathartic.

i am rooting as much as is appropriate for mamdani to be an effective mayor because if he manages it, he will be an important model and national leader for american progressives — one part fiorello la guardia, one part robert la folette

as a westsider with an ebike, basically all of my transit problems are solved with the D line phase 1 extension. I can bike basically everywhere on the westside in under 30 minutes, take the e line to the rest, and when phase 1 is complete, it's a 15 minute ride to that station.

i think part of this whole debacle is just that people from more rural america have no comprehension of how big and dense things are in our biggest cities. 405 traffic is a nightmare. it's incomprehensible to those who live in small or mid sized cities.

yet it becomes a culture war talking point.
You didn't say that in as many words. I admit misinterpreting because I'm toggling to a different "fuck rural America" tab of skeets. However, you are talking about "reducing car dependency", which will inevitably infringe on the right to travel. Congestion pricing on public roads is exactly that.

it's not a war on cars. it's a war on car brain.

free your mind. pay for parking. take the train into the city.
But if I drive to a large city, it becomes my problem. It also hurts the people who live outside the area and work inside it.

it's just so blatant how large the wealth gap is. these people need to pay taxes.
Just fyi this is one of the many reasons Californians don’t like Newsom. A 5% tax on our 200 billionaires would prevent a healthcare collapse from the ACA subsidies going away and he’s opposed to it.

The idea that we need to deport 100 million people - almost one out of every three Americans! - was, a year ago, a deranged claim you’d hear from neo-Nazis to give themselves permission for limitless mass violence. Now it’s coming directly from this horrific agency’s horrific press office

i get it if you don't want to see marty supreme because you think the dude is an asshole. (he is) but i find it boring that you use it as an excuse to not go to the movie theater. are you going to seek out characters like superman? or are you using it as an excuse to not go to the movies?

Real "oh my god, she admit it" moment here. Trump is treated as an uninteresting figure without agency so we can dump endless criticism on liberals for how they react to his "natural disaster." He "doesn't participate in moral frameworks" lmfao
