Proudly serving Los Angeles City Council District 4
Thank you to Amber Martinez and the whole LA Parks Foundation team, the Department of Rec & Parks, and all of our community members for making this year’s Griffith Park Run one for the books!
February 12, 2026 at 1:55 AM
Every year, the LA Parks Foundation hosts the Griffith Park Run to raise funds to keep our parks beautiful and accessible to all. This year was one of the most attended runs to date with hundreds of runners and walkers joining for a 5k around Griffith Park on a beautiful Sunday morning.

It was my distinct honor to present the Hall of Fame Inspiration of Life Award to DMA Anderson this morning, and I am so grateful to Councilmember Hutt and Council President Harris-Dawson for including me in this inspiring presentation.

DMA reminds us that equity is not just a value we talk about, it is something we can design into our work and into every tool that we use.

Her response was to build tools that bring clarity, inclusion, and opportunity wherever they were missing across fields. From supporting creators, to helping students navigate college pathways, to expanding participation in workplaces, her work centers those who too often get left out.
February 5, 2026 at 1:14 AM
She saw early on in all of her work, that complexity is not neutral. Whether it was film production, college access, civic participation, or the world of business, fragmented systems created barriers that she worked to address.
February 5, 2026 at 1:14 AM
She created the first fully integrated cloud-based financial platform used for productions across the entertainment industry, and later built college-access and civic engagement tools that helped first-generation students and voters navigate difficult systems.
February 5, 2026 at 1:14 AM
For more than two decades, DMA has built technology at the intersection of entertainment, education, and civic life, always with a clear purpose: expanding access by simplifying systems that too often exclude.

Black History Month calls on us not just to honor the past, but to recognize the people who are shaping the future in real time, right here in Los Angeles. Today, I had the opportunity to honor someone whose work does exactly that, Council District 4’s very own DMA Anderson.

This is the first update to our rent stabilization formula in 40 years, creating fairer costs for renters and a city people can actually afford to live in.

Under the new rules:
✅ Your rent cannot be increased more than 4% (down from 8%!) or 90% of inflation – whichever is lower
✅ Landlords can no longer charge you a percentage to offset the cost of utilities
✅ You can no longer be charged a 10% increase for any additional dependents on your lease

Do you live in a rent stabilized unit in Los Angeles? Starting this month, new protections passed by City Council last year go into effect, capping how much your rent can be increased annually.

I look forward to continuing our partnership and working together to support the Indian diaspora who call this city home.

The evening was a beautiful celebration filled with history, tradition, food, and of course, dancing! I want to thank Consul General Dr. Srinivasa for inviting me to participate and for passionately uplifting the friendship between India and the U.S., and the City of Los Angeles in particular.

This week, I joined the newly established Los Angeles Consulate General of India in celebration of the 77th Republic Day in India. This holiday commemorates the signing of India's constitution, officially turning the nation into a sovereign republic following independence from the British.

My motion has now been referred back to the Housing and Homelessness Committee, and I welcome the opportunity to engage in further discussion. Any changes in the Measure will have to be put before voters, and I hope that we will be able to send a robust proposal to the November ballot.
January 28, 2026 at 7:02 PM
We must fix any unintended consequences of Measure ULA to remain in line with what voters expected and what this city needs.
January 28, 2026 at 7:02 PM
At its simplest: we cannot address the housing crisis with a policy that worsens our housing shortage. If Measure ULA is going to remain a durable source of funding for affordable housing and homelessness prevention, we need housing projects that actually get built and house families.
January 28, 2026 at 7:02 PM
However, since going into effect, permits for multifamily and mixed-use housing production have seen big drops, even as other jurisdictions like San Diego have seen increases.
January 28, 2026 at 7:02 PM
There is also research and data suggesting that the tax is creating unintended consequences for our city. When ULA was first proposed, research suggested that it would not have big impacts on apartment construction in LA.
January 28, 2026 at 7:02 PM
ULA is facing real threats, including through proposed ballot measures sponsored by business groups and state legislative action, that would either significantly undercut revenues generated by the measure or eliminate the tax entirely.
