Proudly serving Los Angeles City Council District 4
On a beautiful Sunday morning, we gathered in Encino Park with volunteers and community organizers to distribute meals to 65 families— complete with a whole turkey, precooked sides, and delicious pumpkin pie!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped share the gift of giving!

With the help of our incredible partners and volunteers, opportunities like this allow us to provide critical support while sharing the warmth and joy of community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in uplifting the spirit of gratitude this Thanksgiving!

Each meal included turkey and all the fixings—mashed potatoes, stuffing, yams, and, of course, pie! Our CD4 field deputies were on the ground connecting with community members and ensuring everyone had what they needed for the holiday.

Angelenos deserve public servants they can count on, and I know Chief Moore will continue to embody that ethos as he steps into his new role.

I believe deeply in our artist community here in Los Angeles, and my office will continue partnering in the effort to uplift our creatives and support the revitalization of arts spaces—in the studio, on our streets, and beyond.

Families and friends from around the neighborhood enjoyed crafts, live installations by local artists, interactive activities, food trucks, and a perfectly warm fall evening.

Thanks to our partners in Council District 3, the LA Rams, and community organizations like 11:11 Projects, the Valley came out in full force to celebrate the healing power of creativity and innovation in the heart of Reseda.

World Day of Remembrance reminds us that we can and must do more to push our City towards a goal of zero traffic deaths, and you have my word to continue to lead that fight.

Across CD4, we have also secured funding to implement traffic safety improvements, installing traffic signals and crossings, speed humps and tables, and school-site specific speed humps.
November 18, 2025 at 1:23 AM
Since taking office, I have introduced legislation to turn the tide on traffic violence, including updating our signal phasing & timing, creating a speed mitigation program for the City of Los Angeles, and working to install Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) speed cameras in prioritized locations.

In the City of Los Angeles, traffic violence is an all-too prominent — and all too preventable — issue, with 302 traffic deaths last year. It is unacceptable to see so many of our fellow Angelenos killed and seriously injured while traveling on our streets.
November 18, 2025 at 1:23 AM
In 2022, we lit City Hall in honor of the victims lost to traffic fatalities and every year we take this opportunity to raise awareness around this often overlooked issue, drawing attention to the emotional and economic devastation caused by road crashes, and recognizing victims and their families.

Now, we honor Melanie Winter by carrying forward her bold dream of an LA River restored, accessible, and alive—a river that serves all Angelenos, just as she did.

Rest in peace, Melanie. Los Angeles has lost a true champion.

Melanie lived and breathed Los Angeles. She saw its potential, its beauty, and its need for healing. She taught us that the river isn't just infrastructure—it's our largest natural asset, a source of life and community connection.
November 14, 2025 at 4:38 PM
Her childhood friend Shawn Scudder said Melanie embodied the spirit of caring deeply enough to make change happen—a spirit perfectly summed up in the final line of the children’s book "The Lorax": "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."
November 14, 2025 at 4:38 PM
Melanie also understood that creating change required more than policy—it required hearts and minds. She used art to inspire connection to the river in young people. She organized communities, challenged developers, and fought for what became Rio de Los Angeles State Park.
November 14, 2025 at 4:38 PM
Through the River Project, which she founded in 2001, she championed the idea of "unbuilding" the River—removing concrete where possible and restoring natural floodplains that support vibrant ecosystems. We're now now pursuing this vision in the Sepulveda Basin/ Glendale Narrows.

For nearly three decades, Melanie Winter preached as an evangelist for the LA river – spreading a big, bold vision for what this asset could be for the City of Los Angeles.
