You literally made my point. He’s remarkable because of his identity markers. He certainly wasn’t the first Democrat mayor of South Bend. In fact he was the 6th consecutive Dem to hold that role and he was succeeded by a Dem. Why aren’t those other mayors notable?
I dispute the “unremarkable”. His ideas are very main stream, for sure. But the man is not. A few years he was a gay veteran small town mayor in a red state. That we are talking about him at all now attests to his many talents.
