the primary thing that TPUSA provides to young conservatives is a blueprint for weaponizing the abject cowardice of university administrators against individual teachers and instructors, and university admins should take a long look in the mirror and think about what that says about them

1. The ICLR community and culture created this problem.
2. ICLR brought it upon themselves by deliberately defying scholarly norms.
3. This Nature news piece is uncritical advertising for a company's dubious black-box product.
4. Enforcement will be racist and ableist.

This is not only a cowardly betrayal. It also deepens faculty precarity. Ultimately, this kind of thing helps upper admin by keeping folks scared and desperate.

To make common cause with this Administration is to support an affirmatively white supremacist vision of this country. Period.

Every corporation.
Every Republican.
Every influencer.
Every Governor.
Every evangelical leader.
Every voter. Yes. Every voter.
Mark Kelly: "This president, when he says things like 'third world countries,' what is he really saying? I think what he's saying is he doesn't want brown people in our country. And that's disturbing. It's un-American."

i think it's useful to look at areas where the *tech* has gotten much better while tech *interactions* have gotten way worse. streaming has gotten worse, google search has gotten worse, digital cameras are leaps better. apple's silicone is so good it's threatening their user upgrade cycle
it’s so weird to look around and realize like, tech and media are materially worse than a decade ago

People should also see The Battle of Algiers immediately
Somewhat late, but One Battle After Another really is that good. Fantastic action movie that is impossibly perfect for the political moment, up there with PTA’s best, earns the use of the Battle of Algiers clip midway through. See it.

I long for a world beyond white supremacy, a world where the cruelest people are not in charge, and for a world where HUMAN THRIVING in every area is at the center of every decision.

Ever since www.vox.com/the-big-idea..., my working hypothesis has been (a) Weiss wants to build a discourse where race-science-curious is Good and anti-semitism is Bad, and (b) this is effectively identical with reviving New Republic centrism circa 1994.

Important developments. The Montana Supreme Court has played a really important role in heading off far-right conservatism in the state, so of course the Republican Party is weaponizing the ethics process to attack them.
Pretty alarming that Republican lawmakers in Montana are no longer even pretending to respect the state supreme court as part of a co-equal branch of government
Montana Republicans Are Trying to Hijack the Montana Supreme Court
The state’s highest court ruled against GOP lawmakers in a few high-profile cases. GOP lawmakers are responding in kind.

So happy that "On Christian Nationalism: Critical and Theological Perspectives" is now out in print! With 19 contributors, the book addresses definitions of CN; historical development; intersections with racism, sexism, antisemitism, and Islamophobia; and practical ways to address the problem.

Same for literary studies. Non-tenure-track lit studies scholars I know you're out there and publishing articles and books. And if you're tenure-track and know NTT authors, let me know about their work! I can reach out and confirm that they're cool with being listed.
Haven't received as many contributions as usual for this year's lists--could be many things, but one aspect is surely that our ability to get this in front of people is much diminished. If you know folks whose stuff should be on here, please suggest it! contingentmagazine.org/yearly-pub-l...
Publications by Non-Tenure-Track Historians
Since we began publishing in 2019, Contingent has published end-of-year lists of books and articles by non-tenure-track historians released in the past calendar year. To submit something for inclusion...

It will be a criminal offense to fail to make this disclosure.
