Started this masterpiece last night and spent all day reading it to the end (yes, I neglected some important stuff for it; avoidance = faulty coping mechanism) — anyway RUN DON’T WALK if you’ve ever been tempted to read CR2 fic (Caleb/Essek)!! Plotty & chewy & intensely character focused FUN 👍🏼🧡😍🔥

Today I learned about the levator anguli oculi medialis, a muscle dogs evolved just to make "puppy eyes"

Dogs Evolved a Special Muscle That Lets Them Make 'Puppy Dog Eyes'
Wolves don't have the muscle to make that classic wide-eyed gaze, suggesting strong evolutionary pressures were at play in our pooches

The huge crowds in big cities are incredible. But the many, many reports from small-town protests in every state fill my heart up. From Mississippi to Wisconsin to the Philippines, I know how hard it can be to want change, justice, and dignity in a place the world has largely written off.

outstanding thread
There is no way to stop the euphemism treadmill without challenging societal value of the people described by words. No, avoiding specific words does not fix the problem, because the new words become slurs as soon as people know what they mean: the concept of disability embodies the slur they aim.

Friends, please do not alt text like this just to get by the alt text requirements that many users have.

It’s not actually useful & it’s kind of insulting. You could have at least typed: “a picture of purple flowers” and I would regard that as hitting the minimum instead of circumventing alt text

Beginning of an outstanding thread. tl;dr in all your calls to action, include "as able." Open the door to those of us who are disabled and want to contribute. Ponder the possibilities of making access happen.
I'm gonna do a thing real quick to illustrate something, so bear with me.

If I were to say "if you're not accommodating people with disabilities, you're an ableist jerk" - what does that stir inside of you?

Especially if you're an organizer, or a boss/manager, a leader of some kind?

This most excellent story continues to give me hope. Mutual aid is our future and Naomi captures the difficulty and joy of doing it.
This Sunday, 7 p.m.!
On Sunday, April 6th, I will be reading a two-voices, musically-accompanied, performance-style version of "The Year Without Sunshine" at the Bryant Lake Bowl as part of Cole Sarar's Science Fiction Reading Hour series:

Good afternoon! I know there's a lot going on for folks today, but regular life continues on and my household still could use your help.

We've got 1 human on disability, 1 unemployed, 1 on leave of absence after surgery for cancer & 2 cats with medical needs!

Okay, I'm officially asking for help for my household.

The full story is on the GoFundMe page if you want to read all about it. If you can donate, share the link, boost my posts, add a comment to the GFM page, anything at all to help? TY!

Sudden sale!

Ope!
Oops!

It's been years, decades actually, since I made a mistake and overdrew an account, but I seem to have managed it. Therefore, there's a sudden sale: 40% off most things.

As soon as I'm out of the red, the sudden sale ends. Thanks for helping!
