“separating the art from the artist” is a flawed concept and usually simply used as an excuse to unthinkingly consume but there is definitely spectrum of listenability for music i find out is made by losers

Setting aside the whole AI debacle for a second, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why a government that has so much contempt for science, scientists, and scientific thinking would ever want to "accelerate scientific advancement". So they can destroy more of it in a record amount of time??

As an engineer on the job market having parents who are doctors is doing a number on me. They have delivered babies and eliminated infant flu on the Native American reservation.

Meanwhile the company who wants to interview me causes genocide in Myanmar and spreads depression in teen girls.

A neat thing is that Rogue One really echoed a lot of sentiments at the time, a sincere feeling of loss in great struggle containing a kernel of hope for the greater good of the future.

It’s not as well made as Andor, but it’s wild how Andor took those themes and ran with them.
I guess I could say more but you’ve seen the movie right? It’s just good.

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

It remains insane to me that DOGE was treated at the time as an impressive shock and awe accomplishment - “you can’t deny he’s getting stuff done!” - and then instantly memory holed by the press once if became clear it was a total failure by every possible standard including Musk’s own
Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

As a general rule, most people decrying "government intervention" regard state activity they approve of as merely ensuring the default, correct state of affairs and state activity they disapprove of as an artificial and unnatural infringement on it.
in general the American individuality and distrust of government disappears once criminal justice enters the conversation

Americans hate the government meddling in their everyday affairs but "criminals" are a separate class of ontologically bad people that they could never ever be a part of

There are going to be prominent Democrats and mainstream media voices who insist that we have to "turn the page" and "forgive and forget" and they should all be roundly ignored, if not mercilessly mocked.
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

Whenever I hear this, it sounds to me like saying “it’s not about bottom vs. top, it’s about top vs. bottom.”
It's, like, obviously true that "it's not left vs right, it's top vs bottom" is political messaging for dumb people, but it seems, uh, bad that everyone saying that kind of thing is drawing people to the right

These results seem almost good enough to consider getting a task force together to design another pilot study.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.
