Hey there Bluesky.

I’d like to pretend like this is a fresh start for me, but it is definitely not.

I’m still fucking insufferable.
Still folks like @bagleycartoons.bsky.social doing the good shit. Just gotta keep supporting their work!
i thin that the internet has largely ruined political cartoons. people don’t know how to make actual cartoons anymore. all they do now is draw an obnoxious stand in for the artist and a giant text bubble

one thing about this is that in the wake of all of this kirk is basically forgotten. he was barely cold in the ground before his allies — before his *wife* — started scheming over what they could take for themselves. a real life parable.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

One of the more fascinating things to me right now is the MAGA immigrant ladder-kickers. Naturalized and first generation citizens who support Trump BECAUSE of his immigration stances and want to see every “illegal” deported.

I know several of these people personally.
I truly find the notion that the US can't assimilate immigrants insulting. Such little faith in our own capacity, values, culture etc. We did it before.

This is why the "there will never be another election" defeatism is so harmful. There WILL be an election, Trump has no control over it, and his attempts to influence its outcome are failing. To declare we'll never have another election is to give up without a fight. That's the only way they win.
Everyone dooming about 2026 is wrong.

Authoritarianism isn’t consolidated. Republicans can’t rig the midterms.
And their efforts to manipulate them may be backfiring.

The triumphalists had a similar over-read of 2024 as the doomerists, and a similar underestimation of the pro-democracy opposition.
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

On the pod, DLCC head Heather Williams is informative on what's next:

A list of all the studies and all of the movies that demonstrate what Shulman is doing has zero or negative value to human fulfillment and enjoyment is so large it would crash Excel.
This man simply does not appreciate the joy and wonder of being alive and being human.

I’m only being slightly hyperbolic when I say this man and this company are a threat to everything I love and hold dear in life.

Fully agree with Chris. I'll explain in thread, but I made a middling sax cover of Golden from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Maybe you'll like it.

I know my niche is dumb NBA thoughts and I try not to veer outside of those lines on social media. But I care about this, too.

Kinda shows the level of elite capture in this country when the guy with the lowest approval ratings in history is going “hey you fat pig! I’m going to hamburger conference to say fish sandwich! Also not a sex offender!” and the news is just starting to be like huh wonder if this guy is unpopular

And to honestly talk to that doctor about your shit.

Seriously. just do it.
Today is International Men’s Day.

Next step?! Religion monetized the guilt cycle millennia before Capitalism was even codified as an economic philosophy

Further, I think Religious prosperity doctrine actually formed the basis for the modern conception and dogma of liberal capitalism rather than the other way around.
Next step in capitalism. We’ve monetized the guilt cycle.

Interesting that he genderizes this example as “she” when
1) he’s sharing his own personal opinion about shampoo choices and
2) Most women I know, of any economic class, will gladly pay a dollar more for their preferred brand of Shampoo.

These guys economic theories aren’t even elementary level.
Cassidy: "If she goes and gets 2 types of shampoo & one is a dollar cheaper, she'll get the cheaper one & the other lowers their price. Once you give her the power of making the decision, she's gonna shop -- that begins to save her money and squeezes waste out of the healthcare system."

This is the present and the future, best brace for it.

You thought conspiracy culture was bad before, when it was just a collection of humans standing on the summit of Dunning-Kruger mountain. Now those humans have incredibly powerful AI’s eager to help them sound as smart as they think they are.
The content is still obviously delusional to anyone reading it. It’s just organised crazy. But the real danger is the internal effect on the user. The AI provides coherence and validation, stabilising the narrative they’re caught in.

I introduced my 21 year old son to Predator last year and he unironically declared it the greatest movie he’d ever seen.

This filled me with a range of conflicting emotions.
11YO is home sick from school so before leaving to take the other kids to school I set him up on the couch to watch Predator.

If there’s a better thesis to describe abundance politics I can’t think of it.
If there’s no shale gas then there’s no shale gas, but I still think environmentalism is basically bad and politicians should focus more on material prosperity.

An underrated part of our misinformation problem: It's not just that we're awash in deliberate propaganda from ideologues and hacks. Huge, huge numbers of people are primarily getting their political news from morons. They're not deliberately lying; they just pull stuff out of their ass on stream.
There are nearly 40,000 people watching Asmongold stream about the Epstein files vote right now.

Wild reading chatters ask him questions like how long it will take to see all the files... and he pulls "6 months" out of nowhere... just bonkers stuff.
