We can say no to things.
“Companies operating food delivery robots will not be allowed to expand across parts of Wicker Park and Logan Square following overwhelmingly negative feedback from neighbors, the local alderman said Monday.”

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

Wow, I love this book, @nataliehaynes.bsky.social. I’m about 50% of the way through the audiobook, which Haynes narrates herself, and it’s wonderful. If you were obsessed with Greek myths as a kid (and also still as an adult), BIG RECOMMEND from me.
I just started the audiobook of Natalie Hayne’s Pandora’s Jar: Women in the Greek Myths. The book starts with a description of Harry Hamlin’s Perseus fighting Medusa in Clash of the Titans. This will be a book for me — as a child, I watched Clash so much, I memorized almost all of its dialogue.

It’s also worth noting that with the decimation of the Dept of Ed, enforcement of Title IX, which is supposed to mitigate gender discrimination in education, is basically gone, which also protects men who (benefit from the) abuse (of) women. A horrible, horrible web of interconnected misogyny.
Eliminating gender studies courses helps to ensure that universities and other institutions will continue to protect men who benefit from the abuse of women and girls, either directly or through their connections to those who exploit girls and women for profit.

We were freshman in college in Feb 1999 — we went to a Chinese buffet and saw She’s All That in the theaters.
This is an unapologetically sappy feel-good subject (at least, I guess, for people in a happy relationship”). So, to prepare for Valentine’s Day, what did you and your partner do for a first date?

My wife and I went to tea at Huntington Gardens and walked around.
On our first date, my spouse and I spent like an hour talking about footnotes.
