A guy I used to work with was a tenured psych/CS professor as well as on an elite amateur crew team.

He said "you're never going to make learning easier, just like you're never going to make rowing easier."

I think about that a lot.
When people learn with ChatGPT instead of following their own searches, they end up knowing less, caring less, and producing worse advice, even when the facts are the same.

Friction is an essential ingredient for learning! Convenience makes us shallow.

I’m not even really kidding here. Character matters. I’m increasingly not moved by the myth of the asshole who Gets Shit Done. In primaries, I increasingly just look for a politician who has a semblances of a soul. A bad person, Dem or other, can say or do all the right things when it’s convenient…
I think a good test for who the next Dem president should be is did he or did he not do something like bang his best friend’s wife to the point it made the news

I watched Adventures in Love and Birding, which is an adaptation of one of my favorite contemporary romances, BIRDING WITH BENEFITS

It was so fun to watch a movie focused on birding. A lot of you nerds will love it!

But I think romance novels must be the hardest books to adapt…

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

omg they also have all the seasons of the Great British Sewing Bee??? And I see Roku just added a subscription service called Howdy for $3/month to watch ad free or reduced ads or something? DONE. Max has denied me my needed pottery show seasons for far too long.
I couldn't be happier to learn (thanks to the @fuggirls.bsky.social) that two seasons of The Great Pottery Throw Down that haven't made it to HBO Max yet in the US are now streaming on The Roku Channel.
