When people say the law should be "applied neutrally" and "without politics" -- that doesn't means anything. There is no neutral application of the law. Every decision to stop someone, to question them, to arrest or not, to charge, to seek the death penalty etc is a political choice.

They aren’t concerned liberal arts will leave you qualified only for a job as a barista. They are concerned college will thin the pool of potential baristas and make the rest less docile.

What the absolute hell?

We’re paying more than apartment rental rates for tent parking spaces? And to make it worse, they cut the capacity in half and still paid the full rate? We are funneling money into a black hole with no plans for solutions.

Judge blasts city of LA for 'fraud’ over safe sleep site funding and capacity numbers
The site in South L.A. was paid $2.3 million to provide space for up to 88 unhoused residents last fiscal year. But two observers found the site was operating at half capacity.

Four in 10 women under the age of 45 say they'd like to permanently leave the U.S. Probably not coincidentally, they have also disproportionately lost trust in American institutions, including in the Democratic Party.

The only way we will win a better world is not only leftism for America, but internationalism. “Researchers who have anything to do with China should have their careers ended” is a bipartisan position, and it can’t be anymore. If we live in a fragmented world, it will burn in our lifetime

It’s my courageous queer friends that remind me to be courageous. I am stronger because I see their strength and compassion.

The way that the LGBTQ+ community is often closer to the kind of world I want to us all to have, makes all of us better.

Jeffrey Epstein knew Trump was an evil scumbag and tried to out him for the good of the country. We are at a place where a convicted child rapist and fraudster was doing more to protect the American people and democracy than any republican other than Cheney and Kinzinger.

Once you are no longer “productive” in capitalism, your only value is as part of a larger faceless group.

A problem that can be serviced at a cost, but never solved. That ensures that even your corpse can be fuel for the machine.
I’ve said this before, but a huge function of our carceral system is resource extraction from exploited communities, and that includes the fees, commissary, and essentials people send to their loved ones, not to mention the time, attention, energy, etc.
The Federal Communications Commission has voted to roll back limits on how much companies can charge incarcerated people and their families for phone and video calls ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/11/13/r...

Society doesn't take your trauma as an indicator you could use some care. Hell no. Society takes your trauma, if it's the big bad boy trauma, as a mark on you that makes you a freak.

for all the horrors coming out of Chicago and its metro area, the principled courage of everyday people, in the face of such intimidation, never ceases to astonish. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/11/12/k...

As soon as you have been exploited to the point that you can no longer afford housing, you are discarded.

The unhoused are often not seen as fully human. They are no longer individuals, but a concept. A problem that can be serviced, but not solved.
Poverty IS a choice.

Not by the individual, but by our society.

Every single step of the way, someone is trying to make sure you do not get access to something you need to survive.

You soon learn that they’d rather pay to keep you poor than help you live.
How It Happens:
Disability & Poverty 🧵

1. You get sick &/ injured & cannot work. You don’t qualify for WSIB, so you go on STD, if you have it, & start pursuing treatment &/ rehab options as soon as you’re physically & mentally able to do so.

Hadn’t considered, but yeah if you can be held accountable as an adult then those choices should matter elsewhere too.
Unpopular opinion: The voting age in each state should be set to the youngest age someone has been tried as an adult there.

No, no, no, by bailing Trump out, Senate Democrats won the major victory of a pinky promise to hold a meaningless vote on the ACA subsidies which -- hang on now, this is the good part -- will *shame* Republicans when they vote against it.

Wait, Dick Durbin has some charts that'll blow you away.

I want to believe that there will be a moment of reflection, just a hesitation to consider if he’s truly on the right side of how this will go down in history. I’m not sure that any of them are really capable of making that leap. They really believe that they are the good guys somehow.
Really wish I had gotten a better shot of this but holding a phone that says “who else was just ‘following orders’?” up to a riot cop is hard as hell
