For friends in the U.S., this is about the same as if the EU decided to pull apart the United States by actively supporting every loon in California, Texas, and any other state with any interest of leaving the union. Both overtly and covertly.

It is what you do to enemies.
Apparently it can always get worse. The full version of the new U.S. National Security Strategy, aptly named “NSC-1488” by the wags, calls for actively pulling Poland, Austria, Hungary and Italy from the #EU. And supporting far right.

US sides with Putin.

Hiring a white guy for a job that has been held disproportionately by white guys, because he is a white guy: “subverting” identity politics!

Have we considered the possibility that Jack Warner vowed on his deathbed that, “If I can’t have it, no one can,” and has cursed the corporate lineage from beyond? Because on a lot of levels, that tracks.
Great piece, though I can't help feeling that the history of Warner Bros tells us that the answer is not 'Netflix or Paramount', but 'Paramount, then Netflix for, ooh, $70bn in 2034':

It’s good that more of Wall Street has realized a rule-of-law market economy is better than corrupt personalist authoritarianism.

Would’ve been nice if they got that last year, rather than thinking they’d gain from the corruption, or that the priority was getting to say slurs with less pushback.
