There are literally hundreds of local Democratic Party organizations across the country that will willingly give leadership roles to any new blood that asks for it
at this point it feels more achievable to build something new rather than try to fundamentally change the democratic party

The median American has more money than ever to spend on material comforts that have never been cheaper,

AND

home prices are increasing exponentially due to self-inflicted de-growth policies in major job centers keeping ownership and its associated stability out of reach for most

Nuance!

This becomes a lot easier if you think about it this way: the country is locked in to two parties through systemic issues that are nearly impossible to fix. BUT!

Those parties are actually in fact made up of people, and you are in fact in a position to impact what the party’s politicians support
In my old town the GOP had run basically without serious challenge for decades. A bunch of us "millennials" joined the local Dem party and basically asked to help.

We were running it in a year. Within 4 years we had a majority of town seats flipped Dem. A FAR more progressive Dem than old party
“Rather than taking over the Democratic Party the same way the right took over the Republican Party, we should take the easier route and just start up a new party ourselves!”

I’m about to fill my pockets with stones and walk into the sea.

This is also why the Star Wars: the Clone Wars tv show was so good, they got to explore so many different ideas
ironically what makes star wars stuff best is when it is 'something else, but also star wars'

e.g. Andor, a British political thriller but also Star Wars
the Mandalorian, an episode-of-the-week Western but also Star Wars (when it was good)

Nuremburg trials is the moderate position
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

Finally we are doing iRobot from the hit movie “don’t do iRobot”
Optimus robots will just kinda follow criminals around and make sure they don't commit crimes again, so we can eliminate prisons.

These are all things Elon Musk is literally saying.

when a newspaper is trying to sell print subscriptions, the goal is to be “the paper most worth buying to get a good idea of the news”.

This model shifts the goal to “the most sensational articles where people get annoyed enough hitting paywalls to hit subscribe”

Galaxy brain: each borough of NYC should be a state.
If you ever wonder how un-democratic the Senate is, remember: more people voted for the mayor of New York than 49 sitting senators
Zohran has now gotten more votes, in New York City alone, than 49 members of the U.S. Senate did when they get elected; It's likely that, when the final tally is complete, he'll have gotten more votes than half of all Senators currently in office. *This* is what power and purpose looks like.

There’s a lot to unpack here but 30 Rock absolutely did not portray Liz Lemon, played by show creator and head writer Tina Fey, as an “obvious villain”
The reason 30 Rock succeeds years later while parks and rec has aged like a toilet full of milk, is that 30 Rock doesnt shy away from portraying Liz Lemon as an obvious villian with a victim/hero complex, whereas Leslie Knope was played just a straight hero character, even tho she is a neolib shill

Trump: "For generations Miami has been a haven for those fleeing communist tyranny in South Africa. I mean, if you take a look at what's going on in parts of South Africa. Look at South Africa, what's going on. Look at South America, what's going on. You know, we have a G20 meeting in South Africa."

Powerful reflections from the Pope and this messaging - in English - against the Trump regime is going to reverberate in the Catholic communities all across America and around the world.
“How did you receive the foreigner? And did you receive him and welcome him or not?”

Pope Leo XIV challenges us to reflect on the moral cost of policies that target deeply-root immigrants and families.

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

Effective politics requires relationships & community. Today’s parties only think about harvesting individual votes, not recognizing that the social investment will actually get them more votes & build long-term support. Good parties go even further by integrating into community life year round.
