Anti-ICE protest in Foley Square, New York City, January 8th, 2025.

They should be brought up because cops were knocking Americans upside the head and shooting them in the face with rubber bullets for protesting a genocide against them. It's another example of peaceful American protests being met with depraved state violence. It's connected. A braid soaked in blood.
It also really bothers me cause Palestinians have been raising the Venezuela issue and I think even protested in the aftermath of George Floyd and other police brutality in the us. Meanwhile people here are like “why bring them up?”

there is no reason for ICE to exist. immigrants aren’t doing anything wrong by trying to live and work and provide for their loved ones. I don’t care how people got here. if they want to be here that’s good. leave them alone.

It really cannot be emphasized enough that the Holocaust was modeled after the American campaign to displace and exterminate Indigenous people. This country drew up that blueprint.
Fascism isn’t new to the US. It’s always been here. It’s built into this country‘s DNA. Bigotry is our primary export. We just quantified and qualified it under the false title of ”freedom” because that’s what the masses here want & what (yht) ppl with guns & bibles as their personality like to hear
No kidding. I remember when our local government wanted record stores to track names of everyone buying metal records. (Maybe rap too and I’ve just forgotten?)

(Why do I remember this? A good friend of mine owned a record store, and as a new librarian I had some strong opinions, and ideas.)

the reason they don’t bother to manufacture the consent beforehand is that everyone just sort of does it for them post-facto now

Once again, decades of ludicrous ‘Drug War’ and ‘War on Terror’ rhetoric and policy laid the groundwork for this. These are the sorts of things that must be uprooted.

People think SHREK 5 was delayed because everyone had guessed the plot and DreamWorks had to redo it, but really they’re hoping to return the series to its tradition of premiering in competition at Cannes and releasing immediately afterwards.

Every company is doing their own “Wrapped” or “Year in Review” not just to hop on a trend but to remind you of all the content you don’t actually own as our modern cloud-based subscription service landscape disincentivizes personal ownership, much less analog content. In this essay I will

“That flexibility does more than keep the lights on. It lowers the stakes enough to allow for programming risk: forgotten archival selections, arthouse programming, and films with no clear commercial upside can thrive at this level.”

people love to be like ‘blue states good! red states bad!’ but it is a fact that both new york senators voted in favor of this so 🤷‍♀️
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

If there’s something the annual Blacklist publication is good for, it’s serendipitously finding the title of a book I’d been struggling to remember for *decades* as it’s now been adapted into screenplay form.

On a related note, I saw PLANE for the first time this year and it actually kinda rips. The Butler heads might be onto something.
I was in a full theater and the trailer for that action flick PLANE played before the movie. Everyone sat in stoic silence during its violent duration, and when it ended with a slow fade-in of the innocuous title an old man let out a singular “Ha!” that unleashed awkward laughter from everyone else.
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

So with this Disney/Sora/OpenAI news, who’s gonna be the first to generate an animated version of the Zootopia abortion comic?

This feels like breaking a seal. If ai-gen fan videos gain significant purchase inside Disney+, it opens the flood gates on other platforms and suddenly streamers are overrun by slop to the point they’re basically a TikTok feed. Further encouraging them to dump real entertainment for cheap slop.
