It was a beautiful autumn day in Central Park yesterday.

Summer Streets returned to Manhattan yesterday. It's a series of Saturdays in New York City where streets are shut down to traffic so people can bike, jog and walk without worrying about cars.

Pride Parade, June 29th, 2025, New York City.

Some photos from the No Kings protest in New York City, June 14th, 2025.
A No Kings Day protestor dressed up as Donald Trump in a Trump mask with the appropriate attire of an orange prison jumpsuit. He waves to the crowd. Protestors raise the American Flag in front of the New York Public Library. A large banner behind them that hangs from the Library reads "Libraries are for Everyone". The banner displays the colors of the LGBTQ+ Pride Flag. A young woman in a green hand with a blonde ponytail waves an American Flag in the midst of the crowd while marching down 5th Avenue. "Taking back the flag" was an important concept for the optics of this protest. A young man stands atop a U.S. Postal truck to take video of the crowd as it marches past the Empire State Building with his phone. Members of the crowd are holding umbrellas. Despite the rain and unusually chilly June weather, the protest saw huge numbers in New York City, making it the largest protest of this type so far.

A rainy night in New York City.
A photograph of the Empire State Building on a rainy night in New York City. We are standing on a street corner in Manhattan, looking North. We are right next the entrance of a subway station. The two lamps of the station entrance are lit up. Beyond the station entrance we can see a yellow taxi driving along the wet street. On the other side of the street, past the taxi, we see lots of trees from a small park. And in the distance behind the trees we can see the tip of the Empire State Building, lit up against a backdrop of pinkish storm clouds.

Springtime in Central Park.
A photograph of Central Park South on a warm, sunny spring day in April. We are in Central Park, facing south. We can see sunbathers on the grass on blankets. The sunbathers are mostly young couples in the foreground of the photo, but we can make out groups of friends and families in the distance. All of them are facing away from us. There is a rock formation towards the center of the photo that people are walking on. Trees line the horizon. Some trees have their spring leaves while other trees are still mostly barren branches. Far in the distance we can see the buildings of the so-called "Billionaire's Row" — several luxury skyscrapers which are tall enough and close enough together to form an intermediate skyline.

Stormy skies over the city.
A view of Lower Manhattan as seen from Queens. We are in Queens on Skillman Avenue, heading back to Manhattan. Ahead of us are parked cars and a bike lane. In the distance we can see the buildings that make up part of Lower Manhattan's skyline. They are lit up because the sun is setting. Above the buildings are dramatic, dark storm clouds from a storm that has just passed through Queens. The clouds are breaking up enough to reveal the yellow, pink, purple and blue colors of the sunset.

A view of the Empire State Building as seen from the High Line in New York City at night. We are standing on the High Line, looking East. A residential building is in front of us. Some of the windows of the building are lit up, but most are dark. Behind the building in the distance is the Empire State Building, lit up in purple (I don't know why it was purple that night). We can also see the street below as trucks and cars move along.

New year, same view.
A night photo of the view from the Manhattan Bridge. We are back on on the pedestrian path of the Manhattan Bridge. Looking across the water of the East River, we can see One World Trade Center, the tallest building with the spire, lit up in the center-right of the photo. Other, less-impressive buildings surround it, forming a unique portion of the New York City skyline that can only be seen from Brooklyn. On the left side of the photo we can make out the angular lights of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Christmas in New York.
A photograph of the Washington Square Park Arch and the Washington Square Park Christmas Tree. We are in the middle of the street facing south, looking at the Washington Square Park Arch. In the center of the arch is the Christmas Tree. It's kind of a skinny tree and lit up with yellowish lights that do not change color, but it's still a nice tree. The sun has just set and if we look past the tree we can see the tail-end of an NYPD police car, and looking even further we make out the upper part of One World Trade Center with its distinctive spire. In the foreground of the photo, a woman in a blue jacket and black pants walks across the street in the crosswalk. Various other people are positioned around the base of the Arch: from left to right, a young man with a bicycle checks his phone, a group of young people in winter clothing pose and take photos beneath the tree, and a woman is using her phone to take pictures of the sculptural details of the Arch.

'Tis the season for rooftop drinking.
We are outside at a rooftop bar during the last week of November in New York City. It's cold outside, but that's not going to stop tourists and New Yorkers from getting drunk on a rooftop. The rooftop is packed, but we can only see about five or six people in front of us, sitting and drinking on the bottom edge of the photo. They are bundled up in winter hats and coats, including a young woman in a white winter coat, scarf and a thick white winter hat. She is seated next to a hatless man wearing glasses. Due to overexposure in the highlights of the photo, we can't clearly make out any of their faces. Behind them is a fence, and on the fence are large light-up snowflakes. Rising above them is the Empire State Building, which dominates the center of the photo. It seems to glow against a cloudy night sky. There are other buildings around it, but they look tiny in comparison because they are even further in the distance.

Autumn is still pretty.
A photograph of autumn leaves with the sun rising behind them. We are in The Bronx, NYC, but we could be anywhere. We see a few red autumn leaves leaves dangling from tree branches. In the distance and out of focus due to shallow depth-of-field, we can see the rising sun on the horizon. The sun has turned the horizon a beautiful golden color, but the sky above it is blue. The light from the sun shines through the leaves, letting us clearly see details on them such as veins and spots.

An evening on the Brooklyn Bridge.
A photograph taken on the Brooklyn Bridge of the Manhattan skyline just after the sun has gone down. We are on the Brooklyn Bridge, facing away from Brooklyn and looking towards Manhattan. The sun has set, and the horizon has turned orange with hints of pink. We can see lower Manhattan and its distinctive skyline, dominated by One World Trade Center (the tower with the antenna). On the right side of the photo we can see the pedestrian walkway. There are people walking along the walkway but we can't see them clearly as the shadows are strong from the lack of light. We see the arches of the Brooklyn Bridge above the walkway, but a distinctive lamp is what we notice first. Below us is the lower level of the bridge, which is exclusively for cars. We can barely make out a few headlights of cars that are heading away from Manhattan and into Brooklyn.

The Bronx has the strongest, most powerful sunsets.
A photograph of the sunset as seen from The Bronx. We are on the Third Avenue Bridge, which connects The South Bronx to Manhattan. Of course, we are on The Bronx side of the bridge, looking west at the setting sun. What we see in the distance on the horizon are the buildings of Harlem, across The Harlem River. We can't really make out any details of any buildings, but they line the horizon in various shapes and sizes. As the sun sets the sky has turned tones of gold and purple, with an ominous storm cloud on the right side of the photo.

Sunset at the Central Park Reservoir.
A photo looking across the Central Park Reservoir. We are standing on the east side of the Reservoir looking west across the water. There are wispy clouds against a blue sky. The horizon is fiery orange and yellow; the sun has just set behind a row of buildings on Central Park West which are almost silhouetted by the fading light. Most of the buildings are indistinct, but we can see the famous El Dorado Apartments (the two towers) on the right-hand side of the photo. Real New Yorkers simply call it the Central Park Reservoir, but officially it’s called The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. The Reservoir stretches from 86th to 96th street, and from 5th avenue to Central Park West. The Reservoir was decommissioned in 1993 and no longer actually supplies water to the city. It is preserved as a landmark by the city.
