I like cats and dogs and politics and cities and bikes.
I grew up in the South and have made my adult life in San Francisco, and lemme tell you I’ve gotten real tired of the way Dunning-Kruger Californians talk down about the South
I understand why a lot of white liberals are like, fuck the south, because they think about the people in power who are mostly white conservatives. But that is only because of Jim Crow, voter suppression, a lack of real funding for Dems there

We need more homes. Real estate developers are in the business of building them. They do good important work.

People who think mass deportations are a housing affordability strategy have no place in the YIMBY movement.
A reminder, a person who claims to be a YIMBY but backs the deportation of people to "solve" the housing crisis is just a NIMBY.

Lots of buzz about the "affordability agenda," and how we get there.

Well, this is it. Housing and transport are most of the cost of living for most people. We can make it expensive, or we can make it affordable.

No car? No problem. Building apartments near public transit could help address the housing crisis
Quantavia Smith, who was often homeless for a decade, now has a studio apartment in Los Angeles with easy access to public transit.

San Francisco has a moral responsibility to build enough housing that it can be an affordable refuge for all the queer kids of the world.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, has a great slogan for her campaign of street transformations there: “A city where you can let go of your child’s hand.”
As a parent of a small child, this is all I see now.

@cjzero.bsky.social any chance you have this play from about 2 minutes left in the first half of the SJSU-Air Force game?
Well SJSU threw a pass from their end zone that was immediately deflected then caught by a SJSU player who was immediately tackled for a safety and now Air Force gets to run a 2-minute drill instead. Air Force has 138 rush yards and zero pass yards today.

Man, I used to avoid shopping at Publix because of this. Leave me alone when I’m shopping. I’ll ask you if I need something.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

The Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail construction site circa 2012. Yeah I was muddy when I got home from the bars but I needed a shower anyway cause they all were full of cigarette smoke back then.
What was a good transit service or piece of bike infrastructure that opened up your world when you were younger?

For me the C&O Canal Path and the Capital Crescent Trail helped me feel like I could bike pretty much anywhere when I was in my early teens

Sorry for using reserved front-row seats for people with additional needs to sit and breastfeed my baby, in a packed city council meeting about whether to upzone my neighborhood for more young people and families.

Oh wait--no I'm not.
At a meeting about whether we're going to build housing for young families like us. An elderly NIMBY got mad at @alanakinrich.medsky.social for 'being distracting' by breastfeeding our baby in the reserved seats in the front. In case you're wondering who they think should be part of this process.

a really key point here. Cuomo's attempt at gutter Islamophobic race baiting failed because Dem voter opinion on Israel-Palestine has shifted more than 70 points since 2023, and he somehow didn't notice prospect.org/2025/11/04/a...

My dad ran for political office once and lost pretty soundly. He hangs his hat on the local paper’s political reporter calling his concession speech the most gracious they’d ever heard.
Cuomo gave a fairly graceless concession speech, and Mamdani rips his skin off:

"My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo the best in private life. But let tonight be the last time I mention his name."
