I truly don't understand why police aren't required to have malpractice insurance like doctors have.

Been breastfeeding for 4 months, and I have my first clogged duct that has lasted more than a few hours. This shit hurts!

Interestingly, my lactation consultant explained it's mostly due to inflammation. So ice and NSAIDs are front line. No heat, no massage.

Really do not want mastitis, thanks

Our baby has learned how to roll from on his back to front, but only towards his right. He has not figured out how to un-roll out of that position, and he struggles until he screams about it. So Theo and I keep waking up in the middle of the night to flip the angry pancake...
That developmental stage where babies have exactly 50% mastery of the art of rolling

I don't think I've ever seen a "ventricular fibrillation flare-up" treated like a minor, out-of-an-abundance-of-caution thing.

That's like... you could've died, dude.

I used to see young fit people with a continuous glucose monitor and think "great, look how they are keeping healthy with their type 1 diabetes!" But now I see young fit people with a CGM and think they are probably doing some weird body hacking thing. I don't like this new first assumption.

You’ve met men like this. You know men like this. Less famous, perhaps, but the same tedious pattern.

What a fantastic piece of writing. I hope that somehow, in the afterlife, Sharon Begley hears the satisfying *thunk* of her arrow, loosed before her death, now hitting its mark.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

These folks never seem to note that "biblical marriage" specifically includes about two weeks per month when a woman is spiritually/ritually "unclean" (not a physical or moral cleanliness) and the husband cannot touch her. Somehow that's not part of their 24/7/365 sex vending machine fantasy.
Oh no, men being expected to be active participants in the family.

Berkeley "progressive" NIMBYs drive me crazy.

You see how this is a hypocritical set of positions... right?
The local beloved bakery has signs in the window that day "Homes can't wait!" with art of homeless tents in front of city hall... and also a "We don't want this here!" about upzoning our neighborhood. Can't make this stuff up.

Sorry for using reserved front-row seats for people with additional needs to sit and breastfeed my baby, in a packed city council meeting about whether to upzone my neighborhood for more young people and families.

Oh wait--no I'm not.
At a meeting about whether we're going to build housing for young families like us. An elderly NIMBY got mad at @alanakinrich.medsky.social for 'being distracting' by breastfeeding our baby in the reserved seats in the front. In case you're wondering who they think should be part of this process.

Most babies start rolling from tummy onto their back. Mine decided at 1am to roll from his safe sleep position on his back onto his stomach! Screamed his head off and then nearly gave me a heart attack when I saw him face down and flailing. Guess it's time to switch into a hands-out sleep sack!

I recently made an apple pie with green apples from our backyard tree, while watching Great British Bake Off, and it was so seasonal and lovely.

Also made crust for three more pies and froze it, so it's available for the next ones!

Zohran picked 「卓蘭」("excellent orchid") for his first name and「夸梅」("brilliant plum") for his middle name.

The orchid and the plum are among "The Four Noble Ones" in traditional Chinese art, the former symbolizing an indifference to fame and fortune, the latter an indomitable, incorruptible spirit.

I love getting random emails against upzoning my neighborhood, on an email list I never signed up for, from an unnamed person/group, with a registered address that's a local residential house worth $4 million, but pays taxes as if it were $735k.
Whelp the closer we get to Berkeley city council's first meeting on commercial corridor upzoning, the more upset the local NIMBYs are getting.

Along with all the obviously fucked up things about this, and the possibility that these guys aren't even officially ICE...

IT IS NOW ILLEGAL FOR ICE TO WEAR SKI MASKS LIKE THIS IN CALIFORNIA!

I would really like to see local police enforcing this new law.
ICE detains mother dropping off child at elementary school—refuses to even look at her U.S. legal papers.

"What documents?" agent sarcastically replies—holding up the folder.

"The ones in your hands!" witnesses yell back.

I shared a funny anecdote in which my baby was 100% safe the entire time, but I was poking fun at my mom-brain, which is so real. It would be a wonderful opportunity to offer empathy and support! But this person decided to shame me and tell me I should worry more about my baby. Wonderful.
Maybe you should be feeling additional worry. I felt worry and he's not even my child.
