Hi. Chaplain here. You have no moral of ethical compunction to watch the ICE shooting video. It won't bring the victim back and will likely traumatize you. Put your outrage and energy into protest/organizing/donating/supporting immigrants.

Good news: We seem to have successfully night-weaned the baby.

Bad news: I lost my 97-day Wordle streak, as I'd been playing it regularly at my 3-5am feed, and yesterday I forgot entirely! 😫

Happy new year, y'all
2025 was the year I became a mom, so for that alone it will remain one of the best years of my life.

Talking about getting some wooden fencing to make a kid playpen. I wondered how modular and customizable these systems are.

Having a baby has significantly increased the amount of Disney songs and musicals that my husband will sing with me, which is maybe my favorite unanticipated perk of parenting.

Can confirm! I don't do much (though my husband does a bit more) and yet I'm on very friendly terms with several Berkeley city council members and the mayor. If you want to have local influence, just start showing up and talking about things that matter to you.
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

It's too painful for me to pay attention to ACIP today. The harm we're doing to our country's children is horrifying. I'm going to snuggle my four month old vaccinated baby extra hard today.

First time having bilateral clogged milk ducts, and wow is it unpleasant. Pumping didn't help at all. Time to take some ibuprofen and try to sleep. I'm sure the baby will wake up wanting to eat in a few hours.

First shift back after maternity leave...

LET'S GOOOOOO!!!!

(aka I'm actually quite nervous I'll be rusty and inefficient and hate pumping all day)

"When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies."

(My 4 month old baby laughed gleefully when I kissed his belly tonight and it made me happy cry!)

I had a 3 part birth plan:
1. Healthy mom
2. Healthy baby
3. Dad doesn't pass out, hit his head, and get sent to the ED as a patient
Since I've seen some Epidural Discourse on X:

I had an amazing epidural. I could feel and move, but it turned down the pain volume enough that I could get some sleep while labor progressed. I was so much more present because I wasn't out of my mind in pain. I pushed my baby out in 40 minutes.

Honestly, some pretty good goals for an ER shift
It is 1 of 4 goals I have per shift:

1 - no one dies that shouldn’t have
2 - treat everyone kind
3 - my diagnosis lands in right organ system
4 - residents learn something*

3&4 might be reversed

Secret 5th goal
5 - anger controlled or at least focused properly

Been breastfeeding for 4 months, and I have my first clogged duct that has lasted more than a few hours. This shit hurts!

Interestingly, my lactation consultant explained it's mostly due to inflammation. So ice and NSAIDs are front line. No heat, no massage.

Really do not want mastitis, thanks

Our baby has learned how to roll from on his back to front, but only towards his right. He has not figured out how to un-roll out of that position, and he struggles until he screams about it. So Theo and I keep waking up in the middle of the night to flip the angry pancake...

I don't think I've ever seen a "ventricular fibrillation flare-up" treated like a minor, out-of-an-abundance-of-caution thing.

That's like... you could've died, dude.
