Crowdsourcing here: a house I'm hopefully closing on has a huge detached garage. My goal is to subdivide the garage into two bars:
One will be an Irish Tiki speakeasy with Celtic symbology instead of purely Polynesian. The other will be a tailgate bar with TVs, but I need help picking a theme.

The funnier thing is merely acknowledging that the NYC mayorship is a cursed position where you can never achieve high office. Since consolidation, not one mayor has achieved higher office.
Too much of US politics is dominated by the (silly but powerful) warping force that “You might be president someday!” It’s not possible for Mamdani—and that opens up space for a political imagination inaccessible to most by the the new mayor and his constituents lithub.com/why-its-a-go...

The story of GTFS is so cool, it really captures the vibe and hope around tech in late 2000s/10s

A public servant notices how hard it is to navigate transit in new cities, finds a couple peers who still get Fridays for side projects at Google, and they create a data standard that 100+ countries use

Lying to smear a minority group, being caught lying, and saying the ends justify the means for the sake of saving the nation or whatever is fascism 101. Obvious to anybody who knows anything about the 20th century. And musk and the entire tech right is doing it

I find this type of comment so elitist. It IS the most inconvenient and stressful form of long distance public transportation, yet people still use it in droves because they have no other choice. Are we going to just pretend that's not an insane class divide worth highlighting?

We were talking this morning about the fact that Flixbus (and Greyhound) literally just do curbside pickup on a Providence street corner, with no shelter let alone amenities. It's not a Providence-specific problem: this is the intercity bus business model now, provide as little as legally possible.

There are fair criticisms of Mamdani, and every one of them is also being advanced by people who would like to introduce you to the unfair criticisms.
Why are these people so goofy lol

One of the best parts of this picture is that it looks like it was taken before 2007.
Mayor Mamdani hasn't moved into Gracie Mansion yet and remains in his Astoria apartment for now, his team says. He expects to move at some point before his lease is up Jan. 30.

His team also shares this pic of him taking the W train to City Hall this morning from Astoria.

Most of the derangement about Mamdani is for the obvious reasons but part of it is also that a surprising amount of people were committed to the Cuomo rehabilitation project because they hated the idea that anything could have consequences for men of the right class.

Lane Kiffin spurned Ole Miss for a better shot at national titles. Yet after Thursday night, it’s Ole Miss one win away from doing just that thanks to a dynamic QB, a little luck and, of course, Pete. www.si.com/college-foot...

Especially notable is that while some pundits may frame his speech as focusing on "kitchen sink" topics (free buses, etc.), his broader point was to redefine freedom (or reengage with the New Deal definition), and the role of government to ensure it.
