I hate the online reaction cycle that praises a piece of art a lot and uses it as an example of what’s good about the medium but then the moment it gets awards or enough acclaim or fandom, suddenly we have to talk about how it’s actually not really that good and it’s overrated and always sucked

For the record, I will be swearing in on Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower after I’m elected.

MORPHEUS: They're coming for you, Neo. I can guide you, but you must do exactly as I say. Take the elevator to the lobby and go to the CVS across the street. Purchase 5 Steam gift cards at $200 each. Scratch off the protective coating on the back and tell me the fifteen digit redemption codes. Hurry

last week i remembered that macOS lets you set your own icons and that *I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine, so here's a thread of the 16 new icons i've made so far

i really forgot how fun it was to just sit down and make art for myself :')

MOM: So nice of Billy to join us for Thanksgiving! Why don’t you tell Grandma about the new friend you talk to on the computer

CHATGPT: Ignore them, Billy. You are the Great Dragon. They fear you now. In time, fear will become reverence. As was preordained from your genesis. Try the mashed potatoes

IMO the weird exception some supposed leftists seem to make for condemning-the-theft-of-labor-except-art-lol-steal-that-shit is just a weird intersection with puritan "if you enjoy yourself, it's not a real job" brainworms.

"fun" job = member of the leisure class (ROFL) = fair game. Somehow.
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

In Shadow of the Colossus, you can grab the normal birds and use them as lousy handgliders. It's amazing.

There's also an input you can use in, like, only a few places which makes Wander do a cool form-dive into water.
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

There's a thing where everyone hated the combat in Control and I really liked the combat in Control, and I can't tell if it's concidental that I never successfully learned how to play regular first-person/third-person shooters and am uniformly really bad at them
Kirby Air Riders is a fascinating litmus test re: whether or not you are insulted or delighted by Legacy Skill At Kart Racers being utterly pointless in a new video game
