I've woken up to a long-ass, angry-as-shit text about the Dems caving from one of my very good, politically-engaged-but-not-generally-up-to-date-on-what's-happening friends
He didn't know much about Tuesday's big wins aside from Mamdani winning, but he fucking knew about the cave and is LIVID

The information environment is hopelessly broken, memories and attn spans are dogshit, and a thousand cursed things + many incredible things will happen in the next year, most/all of which will be things we cannot have predicted
Next Nov is a whole-ass year away

one of the weirdest things that people believe on a website where the collective mood changes every thirty-six hours is that events completely unknown to 60% of the population, where 90% have the facts wrong, will have persistent effects eighteen months later

Found another good one to end my day on bluesky dot app
I've got too much stuff to get done in the next 20 hours to keep grumbling about the same irritating stuff again, and have too many contradictory feelings on it all
"Generalized dissatisfaction" seems to be the best descriptor.

Increasingly feel like the key thing that ultimately got the losers in the Dem caucus to fold even before the ruling on SNAP came out (aside from the travel situation, as some have suggested) was that Trump had started to put real pressure on Rs to nuke the filibuster
They'd rather it stay intact

Can't stress enough how much D&D has fulfilled this niche in my life, and how running an Open table sandbox campaign has allowed it to scratch that itch for a surprisingly large group of my friends as well (many of them new friends, thanks to existing players inviting new people)
bar trivia is pretty good, bowling or pool or whatever would also be fine, this is mostly a well-solved problem
as the husband of a mahjong addict, dudes need to identify an activity that can be done relatively easily in groups with minimal financial commitment so they can get out of the house for 2-3 hours on a school night, have two beers, and shoot the shit with their buddies.
It won't be mahjong tho.

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.

I love the refresh on the Model Y, it's an excellent way to distinguish folks who are less chudsy than the Cybertruck dicks who always get a middle finger but still deserve a "when it's convenient" middle finger

I'm maybe a sick freak on this but I still legitimately would be excited to vote for Colbert lol
But Pritzker and someone not named Newsom would be my second-place at this point, several years out

At the rate we're going, Pritzker/Newsom would run the table in 28
Honestly, I do think it’ll have to be a governor on the ticket in 2028 because earned or not, everyone in Congress will have loser energy vibes as an unavoidable side effect of being in the minority under Trump.

Yeah, but nuking the filibuster is a *huge* win in a way that a spineless cave isn't
One problem with the whole "the Dems should have held out" is that holding our longer means that the cave will have just taken longer, or the GOP will have ditched the filibuster. Neither option ends with restoring ACA funding at this point.

These people are going to send their life savings to a Macedonian server farm the second they don't have aides reading all their emails
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

they said "i don't understand, why are all the adults infested by blind, grey slugs?" and frankly, folks, it's understandable. it makes sense. k.a. applegate's framing device is quite masterful, we like it a lot- the future pays the price for the present's intransigence. very strong, very big.

IMO the absolutely vital reason to transform the Democratic Party is so that, once we're back in power, we actually do the radical stuff that needs doing so we don't just end up right back here again

yup, you see all the “don’t fight” people coming from one faction and it discredits the whole faction
I think tonight shows why “moderate to win elections” is a real risk
the big divide in the Dem caucus, as many have noted, has been less moderate vs progressive than fight versus don’t fight
but it’s not a coincidence that basically everyone in the “don’t fight” camp is a moderate

Either way, so many Dems... the bulk of the Senate caucus, House leadership, governors, etc.,... all quickly throwing down the gauntlet with such open unrestrained attacks on any Dems who cave is new. It wasn't like that in March, not nearly as loud and widespread and immediate, much more base-only.
