I mentioned Takeshi Miike back on day 10, and now he’s back and he brought piano wire.
Who said dating was easier in the 90s?

I don’t only watch old movies. The way this one plays with the possession stuff makes me squirm just thinking about it. And it has some interesting takes on social media, which seems fitting.

There are a million riffs on the slow-moving, unstoppable killer killing promiscuous young people, but I think this is my favorite take.

Dan Trachtenberg is a director who I’m always interested in seeing what he’ll do next, and his first film is a master class in letting John Goodman cast a spell on everyone on the screen and in the audience.

Blasphemy to pick this over the Dario Argento one? Maybe. But the original doesn’t have that gnarly mirror room dance scene.

I hope my kids have such easy memories of subversion.

Is it just torture porn? Maybe, but whether or not you have any love for Eli Roth, the dvd commentary for the first movie is how I learned about Takeshi Miike & some of the more interesting influences this franchise wears on its sleeve.
I also eat my salad with my fingers (no dressing).

Who doesn’t love a good 80s Fred Savage romp? Not as near and dear to me as The Wizard (notably lacking Jenny Lewis and Mario), but I always loved the world building for all the monsters under the bed.
