There will always be enough votes to beat us but never to feed us. There will always be enough votes to spy on us but never to give us healthcare. There will always be enough votes to pay for prisons but never tuition. The parties aren’t the same but at the end of the day whoever wins, we lose
7 democrats made this bill pass.

If they all voted “no” it would’ve failed 213-214.

The actions of elite democrats only make sense if you assume they’re meant to be controlled opposition instead of an independent party
it actions like this that make people, especially gen z, despise the democratic party. what are we doing here

hey quick question is it a good thing for a heavily armed country to have a lot of unemployed young people with few to no prospects for employment housing starting a family etc and very little to lose
More people are working well into their 60s and 70s, and companies are eliminating roles and seeking more experienced candidates when they do hire, making it harder for younger job applicants to find work, according to new research.
Boomers are staying in the job market as Gen Z struggles to break through
The average age of workers starting new jobs has spiked, new data shows, as AI and economic pressures lead employers to favor experience.

Gavin Newsom is a wretched oily snake who exists solely to block any sign of progress and be the boot on society’s back while still having a D next to his name, so naturally he’s going to be the 2028 nominee
Governor Gavin Newsom speaks out against a proposed initiative to tax California billionaires: “This will be defeated — there’s no question in my mind... I’ll do what I have to do to protect the state."

This is the only overarching narrative I read from last night: people are so tired of this. The cruelty and greed and naked corruption of the elites while most are struggling. If 24 was a repudiation of the incumbent admin, I’d say this is at least that again, and much quicker.
Normal people are just sick to fucking death of the cruelty and meanness
BREAKING: Colorado voters approved a ballot measure that would raise state income taxes on higher-earning households to fund free meals for all public school students.

*nyt opinion columnist voice* if the democrats want a political future they have to stop with the woke identity politics and win over sensible kitchen-table centrists like this family

I read market research once I wish I could find again that laid out the fears and insecurities that auto makers can/do play up to market pickups and large SUVs. They know this phenomenon very well even if their customers don’t. Make you think you need a fortress on wheels to keep your family safe.
"men who clearly have hang-ups about their ability to perform a certain kind of blue collar masculinity" is a society-wide issue. There's a reason pickup truck sales have continued going up (to the degree the F-150 is now America's best selling vehicle) even as blue collar employment has gone down
i mean i don't think you can separate any of this discussion from the fact that so many of the participants are men who clearly have hang-ups about their inability to perform a certain kind of blue collar masculinity

🚨Virginia twist: Former state Sen. Joe Morrissey, long a maverick Dem, is backing GOP LG nominee John Reid over Ghazala Hashmi.

Morrissey says Hashmi is “strictly partisan” & touts Reid’s “common sense” — but he’s still with Spanberger & Jones on the ticket.

Tracks with @jamellebouie.net’s thought that “people simply do not believe that republicans have agency” - Ted Kennedy can be a creep and the media can overreach and it’s still wrong to choose fascism. The mean ol’ libs didn’t make them, they eagerly pursued being the boot on our throat.
And that's why reporters had to go through his trash.
Bork’s stated views on how limited the right of free speech-that it applies only to political expression-were outside the mainstream, and certainly a reasonable cause for liberals/Democrats to reject his confirmation.

A cheap knock-off of a nationalistic propagandist from the most hegemonic and bland pop slop franchise that completely neglects a couple centuries of real culture - as well as any nuance or complexity from the original sources - is actually kind of perfect
