I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

This, from the Quakers, is worth reading. It's a serene, confident, utter rebuke of the hate and fear that's peddled by Sex Matters. The last two pages are smokin'. If you're on the wrong side of the Quakers, you really need to sit down and have a good chat with yourself.
This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”

I have a complex internal flowchart for whether or not a given enemies-to-lovers dynamic works for me, and "they hate each other but they're both just soooo hot that they can't help themselves" is an auto-fail.
So many publicity emails for romantasy are all, "She's a scrappy working-class underdog with traumatic backstory! He's the heir to the throne, a power-hungry force of savage destruction! He's the embodiment of everything she loathes and cannot trust, but he's SOOO hot and can't stay away from her!"

I will never vote for Gavin Newsom anyone who thinks trans people are actual humans will follow suit.

In a world of John Boynes and JK Rowlings, be a Terry Pratchett. It's good advice on pretty much all topics.
He was very good in person with his trans fans too. Growing up going to SF cons, I met many trans people before I even knew what trans meant. I gave my parents very little they needed to accept in their child, so they had lots left over for everyone else. 😉 www.thepinknews.com/2021/08/06/t...

Folks, as part of this whole crackdown on art: do not self report. Don't put things in summaries, don't do itemized lists of what is in your work. Make it hard for the censors to catch you. Make them read the whole thing. They usually won't.

I want to talk about my friend.

I met him at a summer camp for nerds when I was 12, pre-transition. We hit it off immediately, became SUPER close, and our parents would drive us back and forth for sleepovers for the next five years.

He was the first trans person I met. He transitioned in the 90s.
