I wish people would stop flattening social media to the worst it has to offer. It's just a tool. Yes, it's one that is often used very badly, but it has also connected and educated and made life better for countless millions in countless ways.

If you have said, "Get off social media and do XYZ," ok - what are people supposed to do when they get off social media & how are they supposed to learn if they don't know? Ask in their homogenous cul-de-sac?

Offline & online work should happen as hand in glove, or at least left hand & right hand.

If you don't find social media useful, go outside with a megaphone & a sandwich board and try your luck.

Snark aside, please just think about how difficult it must have been to be a journalist back then, or even just someone who cared to know the truth. It's a different world now, & that matters.

Make no mistake, "you do you" Covid policies helped pave the way for Trump's victory

They emboldened him to be more aggressive and openly fascist this time around

You can't throw away entire groups of people & not see very real consequences

Fed study ties 1918 flu pandemic to Nazi Party gains
The paper examined municipal spending levels and voter extremism in Germany from the time of the initial influenza outbreak until 1933.

Because

Some people can get through X number of infections without any noticeable symptoms.

Some of the effects are silent… like changes in blood pressure, and cholesterol.

Some people have symptoms but don’t know it can be caused or worsened by C19.

Mask blocs provide mutual aid like free n95 masks, exist all over the world, and like this story shows, will keep you safe when other systems won’t, whether the issue is a pandemic or climate change wildfires.

Protect yourself and others from illness and disability. Give/get mask bloc mutual aid:

I love the lack of overt toxicity and stupid, hateful people paying to scream the loudest on this site. At the same time, I'm uninterested in a place where we don't critique the horrid things done by purported left-wing parties like the Dems and ALP. We don't need another space that kills truth.

This is not Hiroshima, this is Gaza.

Gaza is nearly 3 times smaller than Hiroshima, and Israel has dropped the equivalent of 6 ATOMIC BOMBS on Gaza.

Don't stop talking about Gaza as if your life depends on it, because their lives depend on it! #GazaGenocide

Never forget that the wars of the 1900s were the industrial scale slaughter of millions on behalf of the dying empires of Europe during a crisis of capitalism.

Never forget that the capitalists will not hesitate to sacrifice millions of us again to protect their failing empires.

It's very curious how "socialists" and "communists" are convinced that people (including themselves) not willing to wear a mask during a pandemic to protect themselves and their comrades are going to be willing to do things requiring more sacrifice.

This is so true. Social media is a crucial lifeline for people who are housebound or bedbound with chronic illness. #mecfs
People who mock social media don’t think of chronically ill people who often live completely isolated lives because they can’t cope with the stimulation of conversation and movement around them.
It’s literally life saving to meet like- minded friends who understand. #ME #LongCovid 💗
