These protests are proving to be pretty popular as far as protests go. I do wish less of our conversation was we said/they said with Republicans and more of it was "y'all are the minority, shut up and think about your choices"

‼️ this is one of the reasons why the Musk shutdown of USAID broke me, like

Congress said 'we're allocating these funds to save lives'

a random asshole with too much money and unresolved bitterness about the end of Apartheid said 'no you're not'

so the funding disappeared??

and people are dying??
There's literally no reason for Congress to exist if any random freak in the presidential orbit can nullify laws and seize federal funds. All of this is plainly illegal, but Mike Johnson leads the most corrupt Congress in US history (and by a wide margin.)

That’s $5 billion more than the entire annual USAID budget. All to one country. To rescue one friend of the president’s.
Trump found another $20 BILLION to give to Argentina, totaling their bailout to $40 BILLION.

Yet we can’t afford to prevent millions of Americans from losing their healthcare.

Shame.

A lot of hyper-polarized Americans are going to find out the hard way that just because they [like/don't like] whoever is in the White House, other countries have their own imperatives and existential economic threats will be reacted to accordingly.
Canada needs to know that hurting blue states is much less effective messaging.

old Soviet joke for our times:

Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to.

Guy says: “looking for an obituary.”

Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.”

Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell.

This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

"We report that eliminating PEPFAR would lead to 601,000 HIV-related deaths and 565,000 new HIV infections in South Africa alone over 10 years. These are the projections for just one country."

Across 55 countries, >20 million people get HIV treatment via PEPFAR.
We tried to quantify the impact of abrupt PEPFAR cuts. The results startled even us
A peer reviewer questioned the premise of our study into the potential impact of abruptly ending PEPFAR funding. Then it happened.

This is money already owed. For work already done. They’re asking SCOTUS to let Trump run the government the way he runs his businesses.
BREAKING: DOJ goes to SCOTUS over order that State/USAID pay owed contracts by the end of the day.

This is coming out of Judge Ali’s Feb. 13 TRO, which he ordered the government to adhere to — with a deadline — in a new order issued on Tuesday.
