That sucks? Sure fucking does. But that's democracy. That's quite literally what the American people voted for. And the only way out of it is the worst case of buyer's remorse you've ever seen, and blue waves in 2026 and 2028 that make 2018 look like a ripple.

There is no universe in which Senate Republicans vote to extend ACA subsidies.
It. Will. Not. Happen.
All Senate Democrats can do is make it excruciatingly clear to the American people that this is the logical consequence of giving Republicans complete control of the government.

The Senate has rejected a plan from Sen. Tammy Baldwin D-WI to extend the expiring Obamacare health insurance subsidies for 1 year. Party line vote.

The real bummer about no one from NIH being able to attend SfN is all the postbacs that would be applying to graduate school this year won’t have the opportunity to network with potential faculty mentors at their posters or attend the graduate school fair.

Why are good teachers leaving teaching?
We became teachers because we love kids, and we care deeply about their ability to learn and grow.
We can’t be complicit in a system that wields us a weapons to harm our most vulnerable students.
We won’t help them hurt kids. We will find another way.

My son looks like one of those guys. He has started going to a coffee shop & reading on Sat mornings. Someone that hates school & (in the past) reading.
He then goes to a book store. This week he bought writings of Plato, Thomas Aquinas, & poetry by Courtney Peppernell.
It could be much worse...

Yeah when the GOP weaponized the FAA and SNAP right before the holiday season, I worried about the Democrats resolve. I’m grateful the American people see this more clearly and have illustrated this clarity of vision so decisively

Yeah. I’m not happy either.
Not happy that I had a Republican rep that voted for the original horrible CR and 2 Republican senators that care not for those losing health insurance support or the federal workers in the state.

I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

I think this an important point. The shutdown was hurting millions of people. In a normal political world, the party in power would first, not want that, and second, care about being blamed for it, which is leverage for negotiation. Neither applies here.
It's also virtually certain that Dem's efforts to restore ACA subsidies were not going to work. They had no leverage to negotiate because the opposite side doesn't care how much or how long Americans in either group were hurting.

Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.
1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.
Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.
