It’s not even politics as vacation, it’s politics as sport. Telling Klein you think it’s morally wrong to want to bring back Jim Crow is like telling David Beckham or LeBron James that it’s wrong to play for a different sports team. They‘re in entertainment playing a game.

Everyone is dunking on poor Noah Smith for getting lost and frustrated at Heathrow Airport and blaming him, which is victim-blaming and I am quite disappointed in all of you. Put the blame squarely where it belongs: on whoever failed to pin his name and destination to his sweater-vest.

If there's one thing you're always seeing in literary history it's husbands giving their wives credit for stuff they wrote
Meanwhile, on twitter, did you know that Mary Shelley never could have written Frankenstein (which is about magnets as you know) because her boyfriend was really into magnets?
In fact, when you think about it, that's why women in general don't write great literature (chicks aren't into magnets).

No one is obliged to rush to the aid of the BBC, and certainly I think a lot of its defenders should be more sympathetic to why a lot of people won’t spare the energy to do so, but there’s no timeline in which its absence doesn’t result in this country’s information environment getting even worse.

I’m sorry but this whole Noah Smith Heathrow situation is so fucking funny. Centrist thought leader with PhD from University of Michigan struggles to navigate basic airport transfer, blames it on the relative economic decline of Western Europe

Part of Schumer's work is ensuring that he will have 51 or more senators in 2027. Will he refuse to endorse and help candidates whom he doesn't like? This is especially relevant if, say, Abdul El-Sayed wins the Michigan primary.

Happy retirement Michael D. We’ve been very lucky to have him (and the dogs!) during the last 14 years. As someone who became a citizen during his term of office, he’s the kind of President who reminds you why it’s good to live in a republic.

OK. Here's the thing. You just can't put on a jacket and pretend to be a security patrol in the UK. It's actually illegal. Who the actual F are these "Essex Spartans"? Government has laws and rules and they need to enforce them.

I don’t want to get into all the BBC issues but I feel like if you can describe trans people as fascist whilst working as a BBC presenter with no issues then by definition trans people do not have power over you.

They should just open the movie with Bond doing Bond things and breeze past it. Literally no one needs this to be a connected universe, and no one could force it into being one as it is.

I really loathe this man so much
You may have missed this gem yesterday. From which we learn that:
1. Betting shops are really good for the mental health of isolated people.
2. Most drug-takers are not a problem.
3. Kids put tuppence in slot machines in the hope of getting rich.
4. Farage probably has a gambling industry donor.

this sh*t is insane
Nothing illustrates the arseholery of the IOC and the British Press more than the use of the image of a not-Trans woman to illustrate a story about trans women being banned (because there are no current trans women competing at this level)

this is not "everyone is twelve" theory. this is the slightly rarer but typically much more consequential "no one knows what lawyers do" theory
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.
