China Mieville’s Bas-Lag novels
OK, less contentious post:

You've been placed in charge of a movie studio, and have an unlimited budget to adapt any work of your choosing that has never been made into a live-action TV series or film. What are you picking?

For me: PC Hodgell's Kencyrath Cycle and there's no close second

Gonna need James Elroy’s reaction asap
An amateur sleuth codebreaker says he’s found evidence linking the Black Dahlia murder to the Zodiac killings.

Investigators have not confirmed the finding, but two retired LAPD homicide detectives say that both notorious cases are solved. Here's what we know.
An amateur codebreaker may have just solved the Black Dahlia and Zodiac killings
Two retired LAPD homicide detectives say that both notorious cases are solved -- with a single culprit -- thanks to the work of a novice sleuth.

David Brooks? The noted feuilletonist?
It’s always the ones you just assumed
David Brooks, who wrote in the NYT last month, "The Epstein Story? Count Me Out" is... in the latest Epstein photo dump published by @oversightdemocrats.house.gov.

He should absolutely be fired by NYT for this. Major conflict of interest that he didn't disclose.

“To articulate what is past does not mean to recognize ‘how it really was.’ It means to take control of a memory, as it flashes in a moment of danger…In every epoch, the attempt must be made to deliver tradition anew from the conformism which is on the point of overwhelming it.”

counterpoint: nothing you post on any social media platform will in any way combat the dangerousness of the right
IMO it's hard to combat the dangerousness of the right by participating in a platform where they aren't present.
I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

They cut off her wedding ring. Pigs.
“She has marks on her neck and wrist from where agents restrained her. Agents cut off her wedding ring and held her in leg shackles at Whipple Federal Building for about five hours.”

Her crime: witnessing ICE, from a distance.

The tone also strongly suggests that whoever wrote this thinks the immaculate conception was Jesus’s, not Mary’s. Oops!
ok it’s legitimately funny that they can’t even throw red meat to Catholics without falling into heresy

The most boring writers in America have been reduced to whinging about Bluesky and that’s somehow the fault of Bluesky users and not these tragic scribblers.

Every semester I have students with testing accommodations and every semester it is not a problem in any way shape or form.
I feel insane watching people act as if testing accommodations are a significant social problem. We're talking about people getting an extra 24 hours to turn in an assignment or an extra hour on a test. It's not like they're getting out of assignments completely or something. Who gives a shit!?

“Entering illegally” is itself an admission that they are subject to US laws. Douglass wouldn’t have wasted his time with this trifling idiocy.
Some are perhaps. Many more are ignored or released by "sanctuary" states/cities. They drive w/out licenses. Take over property.

Entering illegally without being returned by definition means they're not subject to our laws.
