I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

The same Democratic Party that just surrendered in the shutdown fight:

- gave up pandemic relief without a fight
- failed to ban gerrymandering
- gave up on Build Back Better
- voted to confirm Trump’s appointees.

Rollover.
Wither.
Die.

Like Fox News line: Democrats win, they lose.

God I want to see a million “Dems demanding new leadership” articles today, I want it to be a narrative Schumer can’t escape
Democrats are demanding new leadership after Schumer failed to stop a GOP-backed funding deal that doesn't guarantee continued health care subsidies. Progressives like Ro Khanna blasted him for giving in and warned premiums could soar as a result.
Democrats Call for New Leadership After Schumer Caves on “Terrible” GOP Deal
“If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing … what will you fight for?” said Ro Khanna.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

Acts of meaningful resistance:

1) Wear an n95 style mask in public to reduce community illness while fascists destroy healthcare

2) Form & support unions while fascists destroy workers rights

3) Give $ to targeted groups (trans folks, immigrants, &c) while fascists deplete their resources

Gov. Hochul has the ability to pass the NY Health Act, which would guarantee healthcare for everyone in NY.

We have the votes to pass it in the state legislature, but Gov. Hochul refuses to endorse.

Any rhetoric on healthcare, is meaningless.

You have the power to fix this.
Today’s vote makes it official: New York’s Republican members of Congress voted to gamble with their constituents’ lives to pay for billionaire tax breaks.

They had two chances to stand up to Donald Trump and fight for the people they serve. They failed both times.

Darkly funny how obvious the bigotry is here. "Discrimination against gay people is bad but uhhhhh trans people take medications so uhhhh that's different."

It's actually not! The core issue here is still equal rights for a minority being cast as a threat to the majority.
I cancelled my subscription because of comments like this. "Novel issues" - yeah right, there are no other medications that require lifelong usage. I think the cholesterol medications (among others) would like a word.

But we have an entire intellectual class that has somehow convinced the public — and itself — that describing basic political realities is a form of bias.

"Don't unfairly judge the right" has become "don't judge the right" — even when the facts indicate that they deserve blame.

okay Andrew now let's try "can you tell us why you left your last job?"
Cuomo acted out a mock job interview between Mamdani and a recruiter.

The world isn't silent on Gaza - this is by far the most vocal I have seen the general public on a political issue in my lifetime. I have also never seen a bigger difference between the anger of the public and the inaction of specific institutions and governments. That's the crucial disconnect.

I am deeply confused by private businesses claiming they "can't" put mask mandates in place for equally private events. At least where I live, there is literally no law against it. You CAN. You just don't WANT TO.

Well, I CAN catch Covid, and I really don't WANT to.

They departed Texas 5 days ago.

What a colossal waste of time, money & military resources. All for a President who has shown zero respect for service personnel.

He has spent his entire adult life promoting ideas that are wrong and have literally gotten children killed. How *should* we treat a figure like this?

We should have a memorial day for COVID. It is horrific that we as a society have done virtually nothing to remember the millions who have died. Rushing to forget what happened also makes it much more likely that we will continue to repeat our deadly mistakes.
