This might sound like a hot take but friends: Read books as a hobby this year. It is one of the best things you can do for your brain to grow your thinking and perspectives.
If you want to be anti-consumption get a library card.

Bonus: in places like UK/AoNZ/CA library copies pay authors

It’s not just that unemployment is up 28% since the govt took office it’s that they engineered it! If you have the faintest clue about how the economy works you know that cutting public spending impacts the private sector immediately. The govt is the private sector’s BIGGEST customer.

Just a reminder that the Gov't can MAKE MONEY APPEAR to pay for things that matter to them. They made money for landlords and space but not for education, science, housing, or homelessness...... people tell you what matters with their actions.

One of the main recommendations in the science reform reports was MORE FUNDING NOT LESS

How absolutely fucking outrageous

The place I am seeing thin is in: ness is on visual social media and celebrity gossip places (online magazines etc.) but the thing that is creeping up is the youth focussed clothing brands doing it with 2000's designs returning. There is no room for extra weight in ultra low rise clothing
1/2
If you’ve noticed/remarked on a perceived resurgence of “thin is in,” where specifically are you seeing that resurgence?

Is it in person? On particular social media platforms? Somewhere else? Get as concrete & specific as you can!

(Answers like “it’s everywhere” with no examples are not helpful.)

NCEA is older than smart phones. Windows XP was released the October before NCEA began its phase-in. I have grown from a 15 year old to a 38 year old since NCEA began.

Lets face it... if you don't understand how NCEA works at this point, you've never cared...

Libraries (and librarians) are the very best thing
You can go to your closest library to find safe space to write. You can write in a $3 notebook with a pen. You can bring a laptop and plug in. Libraries are quiet with niches where you won't be disturbed. You will also feel the support of all the novels around you.

Books have always been a source of solace and joy for me even my the hardest times. It seems that those in Gaza are feeling the this in times harder than I can imagine.

Flood of reports continue from Kiwis being deleted or moved off the Maori roll. This concerns every single Kiwi who cares about NZ.

Tomorrow is the cut off for local elections & next step is more complex special voting. EC says they've moved some to dormant but reports are highly suspect

If you joined InternetNZ to help stop the takeover by rhe FSU and Hobson's Pledge, you've done some great work tonight

Consider bringing that energy to other civil society organisations, groups like Voices for Freedom are also trying to take advantage of low participation to push their agenda

Such a critical insight.
A lot of the work to push back against hate is slow, unexciting, and let's be honest: the labour nobody wants to do. Hanging out in a Zoom meeting waiting for motions isn't glamorous but it is important.
Today the good humans did important work
Ngā mihi nui koutou.
Spent the 10 minute break ranting about needing to be at an AGM to prevent white supremacists and racists from wanting to dominate the internet domains and how TEDIOUS this stuff is and that this is what pushing back against fascists looks like in practice (is often tedious and unexciting work)

I have a 7pm Teams meeting so am trying to figure out if I can keep the INZ AGM open in Zoom on another screen so I can still get my votes in.
Things are moving so slowly in this AGM

Suffering is often a political choice.
