Sometimes problems with writing are physical discomfort. Over time old chairs wear out, our bodies change, our needs change. Your writing space may be very small but you should make it as comfortable as possible. Be intentional and notice when your writing slows.

Self care is good for your writing. You will have more stamina, energy and likely better moods. You don't have to be super clean but you should aim for healthy environments with low noise levels, good seating, comfortable heat or coolness and good lighting.

No two writers prefer the same environment but all of us should be in a space that is healthy. This means low dust, no mold, no stacks of dirty dishes. You want your air to be of good quality. If you have pets this means low dander or close them out.

Once a week give your writing space a brief clean. Dust. Put stuff away. Clear off room near your keyboard. Try to make it a habit. You want room around yourself sort of like creative space. You don't want to have numerous distractions for your resting gaze.

It is important to notice what works for your creative productivity as you likely only have a certain amount of time available. When you enter creative flow, what helped you reach that point where it just works? Take brief notes in your journal. Remind yourself for later.

More than halfway through Saturday, is it working out the way you hoped it would? Mine is better than expected or mostly I got locked in on formatting sufficient to make it flow well. I know my tomorrow won't start till after 4pm for writing. So maybe that pushes me too. #writingcommunity #writing

Signature 2 of the current book I'm formatting is done. That's 55 individual pages although I've switched to 30-page signatures now, the first was 25. Will start signature 3 in a few minutes. What are you doing today?

Tomorrow is writing group for me.

I have friends coming over who intend to sleep over for tomorrow as they are in the same writing group. This should be enjoyable for all.

I recommend you belong to a local in-person writing group that is social.

Strategies for success basically mean observing every obstacle you position toward that success. In writing, it means all of your justifications to excuse you from writing. None of them really hold up under close examination. Fear is the mind killer.

The trick to writing -- is writing.

Obstacles to writing are nearly 100% self created, even if your arm is broken. Resistance, at its core, is a fear reaction to what your inner self has to say. Writing reveals stuff to you about yourself. Just be afraid and write anyway.

If you cannot think of one word to write, then pull one of your really good books off the shelf and start re-typing that book. This will lubricate your brain and may even make you jealous of that writer but it will overcome your inner obstacles because that writer, isn't blocked.

The hardest thing for many writers is overcoming the inertia to start writing on a good writing day. Your best option is to develop a writing habit. Make it easier. This habit is a series of small steps that ends up with you writing in as short a time as possible.

Saturday is now a FREE write day.

Take down your procrastination sign and focus. You are starting a new year and I'm not telling you to work out here, I'm telling you to write. Turn your brain on. You are allowed coffee. Turn off your toxic devices.

Write.

Saturday, this was always my favorite day as it meant I was off from school or it had the appearance of personal freedom. You should be writing today and correctly disposing of any dead tree inside your house. Also chuck all empty boxes and box all seasonal decor.

Betty Boop just moved into public domain - this means you can use the early version (note the date) at this point. However, that original copyright merged with later copyrights and if you used it you might be sued for infringement. Get a lawyer first. #writingcommunity #booksky #copyrights

Many writers find value in joining a large writers group that is primarily social rather than a critique group. This social meeting of like-minded writing focus gives you people to talk to about common shared issues. You should feel some support.

The pool was full today with all lanes at doubles and 2 at triples. I still had a good swim. Next week I will be back to 3 times a week swims. I look forward to it and also know my Fridays are the hardest swims as my swims are 18 hours apart and that is hard.

You may have serious health problems. That is fine. Try to manage what you are dealing with in the best way possible for you. Be a good caretaker of yourself. Be kind to yourself. But, be firm too. You need every bit of your energy so focus on that.

New writers are especially vulnerable to doubt. We call it things like imposter syndrome. We doubt our value and the value of our work. This means one of your success strategies works on intentional confidence building. Best possible mental and physical health are important.

You are also interested in avoiding burnout. You want to nurture your creative life and feel increasing confidence. A writer's life is very emotionally taxing with lots of pressures and lots of low self esteem included. You manage this with improved confidence.
