It never ceases to amaze me that folks can't grasp this.

You should always want as much information as you can get, early in the process, so that your future decisions are more informed. That's all there is to it
For those with angry relatives like mine, the quick explainer:

They gotta for 2 at some pt

If they wait til the end of the game and fail, it’s automatically over.

PS And I do think AI companies should pay for copyrighted materials they train on!

PPS there are lots of very valid criticisms and concerns about AI tools and AI tech bros.

But when I see people say AI tools are useless I just think they don't know how to use them.

This is Angel Falls in Venezuela, with its 807-metre sheer plunge - the tallest waterfall on our planet.

Except - it isn't. There's one that's bigger. MUCH bigger. And when I learned about it this week, my mind was fully blown.

OK. Buckle up! (Especially if you don't have a head for heights.)

If you want a weird but true fact to talk about:

Dexter Holland, lead singer of The Offspring, was instrumental in this. His doctorial thesis in molecular biology was sequencing mRNA in HIV. The paper was also heavily cited in creating the COVID-19 vaccine.
It feels like we should be making a bigger deal of “we actually did in fact find a cure for AIDS”

You literally cannot say to a country: I want you to reduce your trade surplus with the US *and* invest more money in the US. The reason they have money to invest is by running a trade surplus, and the reason they run a trade surplus is cuz they invest that money rather than spend it on US imports.

I'd just like to point out how weird it is that places with hundreds or even thousands of reporters — the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, AP, etc. — are all getting pummeled on every major story by the dozen computerboys at Wired. To fumble the bag this consistently is, at some point, cowardice and a choice.

If you think a person is "overreacting" to something, it's because you're making incorrect assumptions about what they're experiencing. 99.9% of the time, a person's strong emotional reaction to something is perfectly appropriate*... you're just not seeing the full picture.
