I’ve said this before, but a huge function of our carceral system is resource extraction from exploited communities, and that includes the fees, commissary, and essentials people send to their loved ones, not to mention the time, attention, energy, etc.

I understand why they do it, but I find it depressing that the food banks here have to regularly run 50/50 draws, because I guess "Help out your neighbours who are struggling" isn't very appealing to some people unless they also might get a pile of cash out of it.

Dealing with a strong familial history of addiction, I've found mine settles on gambling - not necessarily sports or casinos, but mainly at auctions, raffles, 50/50s. Especially when I'm feeling down about myself or anxious, that's how it plays out.
It's how I got most of my GW / signed jerseys.

Dealing with a strong familial history of addiction, I've found mine settles on gambling - not necessarily sports or casinos, but mainly at auctions, raffles, 50/50s. Especially when I'm feeling down about myself or anxious, that's how it plays out.
