Nope! The same thing happened in Canada but was walked back a couple years ago. Most provinces have gone back to phonics and abandoned cueing entirely but NS just added phonics and kept the cueing in the curriculum, so it’s unclear how many NS students are actually being taught to read correctly.
Nova Scotia's new learning-to-read plan still doesn't go far enough, say critics | CBC News

Is this some weird American thing? I've never heard of it before, and AFAIK phonics are still taught in Canadian schools.
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Much of the hand wringing, imo, is over a critic explicitly saying they are judging the moral fabric of a piece of art because of the tools used to create it and it’s making some folks feel uncomfortable and shamed. The people who feel that way should sit with that feeling.

We're up to three candidates who've made comments along these lines now, but I won't rest until all five have done it. I believe if we put aside the politics of division and come together as social democrats we can get this done.
Every NDP leadership candidate is now going to obsessively talk about how they're going to create a Zohran Moment in Canada or something like that.

These theories are both wrong. He made the offer as a shitpost, which he thought he could get out of, and tried very hard to get out of, and he only followed through with the purchase when it became clear he was going to lose the legal battle to end the purchase agreement.
I know people think Musk only bought Twitter to help the rise of fascism.
While that’s important, I still think it’s secondary to his primary goal, which was to own the place where his fans praise him.
With AI, Musk’s use of the platform for love and validation is only getting more transparent.

Bumping this for anyone who didn't see it over the weekend. A large group of civil society organizations and researchers have come together to produce a fantastic outline of the harms currently being caused by AI tools, and why the government should avoid rushing headlong to adopt them.

Even the relatively recent past! I highly recommend reading The Road to Wigan Pier, one of George Orwell's non-fiction books, which is about the living conditions of working class Britons in the 1930s.
It is genuinely hard for most people to grasp how poor the past was.

It seems like the more time game developers spend with generative "AI", the less impressed by it they are. In the most recent Game Developer survey of people working the industry only 13% expect these tools to have a positive impact on the industry, a decline of nearly half from the previous year.

Started playing The Outer Wilds 2. Feels like a step back from the first one. The enemies are really bullet sponge-y, and combat feels unbalanced and spiky. There's also just way too much dialogue. Every conversation is a giant lore dump. Needs a good editor to go in and cut a bunch of it out.
