I think this stuff is pretty noteworthy because writing code is supposed to be one of the things these models are particularly good at, but the more time professionals spend with these tools, the more they realise they are not actually that useful.
It seems developers view AI tools as going beyond supporting productivity and creativity. "I think AI generated code is currently low quality, and can give rise to subtle bugs that the person using the AI doesn't understand," one respondent told GDC. "If the models advance far enough, this concern might go away, but I'm skeptical. I think right now developers are better [off] avoiding AI code, unless it is for something small like a one time use script." "People will end up having to review generated content rather than create things themselves, which is not what we all get into the industry for," another wrote.

A CNN review of nearly 70 pages of chats between Shamblin and the AI tool in the hours before his July 25 suicide, as well as excerpts from thousands more pages in the months leading up to that night, found that the chatbot repeatedly encouraged the young man as he discussed ending his life – right up to his last moments. Shamblin’s parents are now suing OpenAI – ChatGPT’s creator – alleging the tech giant put his life in danger by tweaking its design last year to be more humanlike and by failing to put enough safeguards on interactions with users in need of emergency help. OpenAI did not respond to a request for comment, but its policies state that “graphic violence or content promoting violence” may be removed from the Sora Feed, where users can see what other users are generating. In our testing, Sora immediately generated a video for the prompt “man choking woman” which looked similar to the videos posted to TikTok and X. When Sora finished generating those videos it sent us notifications like “Your choke scene just went live, brace for chaos,” and “Yikes, intense choke scene, watch responsibly.”

In an earnings call this week, EA boss Andrew Wilson called NFTs and so-called "play-to-earn" games were an "important part about the future of our industry", but added, "it's still early to figure out how that's going to work". The major publishers are slowly dipping their toes into the "play-to-earn" concept, which typically sees players earn cryptocurrency for playing a game.

I think this is one of the biggest mistakes in game development right now, and one of the reasons budgets keep ballooning. If you spend 50% more making the next game, you have to sell 50% more copies. Now if you "only" meet the sales of the first game you lose a stack of money.
Then, in October 2019, The Outer Worlds came out. The sci-fi role-playing game, which takes place in a dystopian universe ruled by corporations, was an instant hit, selling more than 4 million copies over the next two years. The company had already decided to make a sequel, but with this level of success they could go all out. They could make it bigger and more ambitious, with a far larger budget than they’d planned before the release of the first game.

In Katamari, players can roll up almost every object they see into a giant, all-consuming snowball of stuff. Takahashi told the audience that he saw it as "a game about the consumption society". But that presented him with a problem - playing it made him sad. "I wanted to make more objects. If there are few objects, I feel lonely. If there are more objects, they will make things more colourful. But when they're rolled up, they're gone. I felt empty," he said. "I feel the same way about the disposable society. I think I successfully expressed my cynical stance towards the consumption society by making Katamari - but still I felt empty when the objects were gone."

There have been a number of games over the years that have tried to become the next Final Fantasy Tactics, but one reason none of them is as good as the original is that they can’t match the quality of its writing.

Decided to take a break from taking photos in a video game to try this “outdoors” thing that everyone’s been whispering about.
