please watch this interview and share it. the opening is especially necessary -- homelessness isn't the exception. as rents vastly outpace what wages can afford, many who are working multiple jobs have no place to live.
"Homelessness today isn't just the person sleeping outside a Walmart. It's often the cashier or worker stocking the shelves inside."

I joined @pbsnews.org to talk about There Is No Place for Us and the staggering rise of the "working homeless":

THIS is the story.

That the feds are spying on people doing completely legal stuff and characterizing them as “anarchist violent extremists.”

The story is NOT that you need to be afraid to court watch or patrol your neighborhood for ICE activity. DO NOT SELF-REPRESS.
"An FBI memo that claims 'anarchist violent extremist actors' are targeting law enforcement cites a private text message chat that included immigration court observers, raising questions about whether the spy agency is monitoring political activity, a copy of the document indicates."

The Virginia legislative session is weeks away. This is a genuine opportunity to create significant, lasting change. Now’s the time to organize! State workers’ right to unionize and strong tenant protections are within reach!
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

good morning charlottesville!! what a lovely day to not vote for a school board candidate who promised to keep police out of schools and then voted in favor of it anyway, without robust data or engagement with the public!!

I left after this. It’s pretty clear Cville PD can’t guarantee the data isn’t abused. It’s not clear that the costs of Flock are at all worth the benefits.

One food bank in Virginia saw a 65% increase in visitors since last year, more than at the height of the pandemic.

“We thought it would come back down and it hasn’t,” the food bank’s chief philanthropy officer said. “It keeps growing.”

In case you’re wondering where the 4 city school board candidates (for 3 spots) stand on SRO’s:
I've talked to all four about this specifically! Torres and Bryant are opposed, Dashad Cooper is pro but open to more restrictions/requirements for police, and Dooley is *strongly* pro. (sorry to crash into the thread!)

Unhoused families are less visible in our community, but I promise you, they are here and they’re struggling. Please pitch in if you can!
Here one thing you can do that will help someone — a single mom with two medically fragile children is unhoused & has an urgent need for funds for a hotel and food. If you’re able to help, Venmo @kathryn-laughon and put “mutual aid” in the subject. Thanks 💕

The so-called paper of record published an opinion piece stating that if Israel had *really* wanted to commit genocide, they would have done a more thorough job. This, while the people of Gaza literally starve to death. What kind of world is this? I don’t have words.
