My hottest take is that the US House should be massively expanded (no district more than 100k people, districts determined by an independent, national body) and the Senate should be reduced to largely ceremonial only. Let them vote on impeachment and that's it.

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

Furloughed federal employee here. The last time I got a full paycheck was September 26. Sure, I'd love to get paid again. That would be great. But not at the expense of people staring at huge hikes in their health insurance premiums. No way. Fix health care first.

All this suffering for what -- a promise to maybe vote next month on ACA subsidies? Pathetic. Demoralizing.

"Hope is not blind optimism or uncritical belief in a political savior. Hope, to me, means the ability to imagine a better world is possible and then work to build it brick by brick. It is, as @prisonculture.bsky.social says, not an emotion but a discipline—one we must practice every single day."
